Hi there! I ' ve recently bought the Ampeg Vh 140 c and I would like to give my 2 cents. I own the combo and I can assure you this thing is a freaking beast! You wouldn't possibly need some much gain. It gets ridiculous! Try to imagine that" I get to slayer path when the gain is at 11 o clock and this with my stock jackson ps4 pickups which sound like crap! Next week I am getting a new guitar so I I am going to share with you my thoughts! Another thing most people haven't realized yet is that this model has got one of the best chorus effect ever!!!

A few things. First: yes, the 6505+ 112 only has 1 handle. Second: I highly doubt that Peavey will put out a 60W 6505+ standalone head. Third: there isn't much of a difference in volume between a 120W and 60W head, the difference is only 3db. However, the head costs nearly twice as much as the 112 combo. Fourth: an amp's wattage doesn't mean sh*t. It's more about the efficiency of the speakers than anything else.
Here's how that works: most of a speaker's volume comes from the first watt, since doubling the wattage of a speaker only increases the volume by 3db. So, say you have a speaker rated at 86db at 1W and another rated at 95db at 1W. In order to get the 86db speaker to sound as loud as the 95db speaker at 1W, you need 8W. Similarly, 95db@2W = 86db@16W, 95db@4W = 86db@32W, etc. Therefore, there isn't much of a difference between the volume of a 60W amp and a 120W amp if they have the same speakers (which in this case, they would).

I'm not sure that theory is true. I odn't think the wattage (of the speakers) has to do with the actual volume of the speakers.

To my understanding thet theory goes like this:

If you have an amp and the volume is 80dB and you at another amp exactly like that next to it and it's volume is 80dB the the whole volume is now 83dB.

And if you want to get 86dB you need 4 same amps and for 89dB you need 8 amps

So you double the number of sound sources to get 3dB more volume. The more a speaker has watts the more it has headroom, meaning lower wattage speakers (greenbacks) will break up sooner (sound a little distorted) and higher wattage speakers (EVs) will sound cleaner.

And for the "Fourth: an amp's wattage doesn't mean sh*t." You can put a 1W Blackstar head in a 4x12 with EVs in it, each rating 300W making it total 1200W and I'll put a 100W Marshall in a 4x12 with Greenbacks (total 100W) and I promise you that Marshall will be (much) louder.

But that's true that there isn't much difference in volume between 60W and 120W, whether its 3dB or something else. They just feel different.

You're kind of right - dB is a measurable aspect. Loudness is perception. Play what works for you. For me, to play convincing thrash, you need at least 50 watts, closed-back speaker cab, and fercryingoutloud, NO EL-84s!

JMHO, YMMV and all other associated shet.
