Thrash metal guitars

Re: Thrash metal guitars

I have found it seems to be a ongoing project for me, I started out with a Ibanez RG570 then as I learned about different setups, neck Radius,Better Trems I started changing out Items and Finally I found that my custom neck profile and Radius I came up with on my own worked out 10X better then anything in production, Finally I had an Idea to strip the body down to bare wood stain it and left it that way for awhile. Still felt something off Finally I found some Urethane Clear that is scratch resistant and so I put 4 coats on and I think I finally am donewith any mods other then I may replace the SH-8 Invader Bridge and V7 S1 PU's with a Set of AHB-2 Blackouts with a Push Pull pot to enable me to change between the 2 PU settings and use add a Single PU that works with the Blackouts. Basically no matter which guitars I played and liked I ended up having to create my own which I am much happier with now.

Re: Thrash metal guitars

Go for the Jackson. LTDs are nice guitars, I have one myself, it's a nice guitar. But, LTD's wood quality and hardware quality are very low compared to Jackson. Jackson's wood quality is definitely a lot better for whatever you pay. It's also, of course, Made in China vs Made in Japan. Jackson's Pro Series offers some really powerful, and sturdy guitars. But then of course, do you want the EMG 81/81 or the Seymour Duncan SH4/SH2N set?

The best thing you can do is go try both out, and see which one feels right, don't walk into a store and pick one up based on what people say here.

You almost might want to check out one of these: http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=2911003803 You can find it for around $999 on guitar center.

Re: Thrash metal guitars

Go for used jackson, you can get professional series jacksons for ~400USD and they're very good guitars. Usually you can quite easily change the pickups for whatever you need and emg's are very easy to find. If you sell the old pickups you'll pay little to nothing for the switch assuming that they are regular duncans or emg's.

EDIT: some famous 81/81 users, Hammett and Hetfield

Hetfield used the 81b/60n combo, until he got his signature pickups from EMG

Re: Thrash metal guitars

Well, i deicided to get Jackson DK2T. i hear emg sound and i really don't like it, but i like the sound of JB in alder, so i am gonna get this guitar. and i really don't have patience to set up any licensed, even korean floyd rose, so i go with that string thru body guitar for the beggining. i had bough mahogany body ibanez rga32 with actives but i really don't like it so much. to dark sound. i will bought boss harmonist pitch shifter pedal for divebombs and stuff like that. and that DK2T for the beggining of the band.

Re: Thrash metal guitars

The DK2T will be perfect for you. I have had a couple of Dinkys and they were great guitars.

Re: Thrash metal guitars

I wanna be the first to say it.

LES PAUL.

Rythym & Lead? LES PAUL

Pickups? EMG, SD, etc all sound gr8 in a LES PAUL.

Clean, heavy, bluesy, etc? LES PAUL.

Sure, I use my Les Paul to play "Creeping Death" and stuff with my band. But my Jacksons (well, a couple of them) have 24 frets which means no big bend to hit the first note of the solo.

Re: Thrash metal guitars

I am Curious if anyone has heard or even played a Guitar with the New Passive active PU's I believe they are Gus G Fire or something like that I should probably double check just so I dont start confusing anyone. I was actual Correct "Oh my the world is coming to an end" I was very Impressed with my AHB-1s 7 String PU's and I also Like my SH-8 Invader so when I seen those I was like "freaking about time". All the huge gains in technology I have personally seen since I first picked up a old beater Guitar I am really suprised that they dont have PU's with Presets so you can dial in the exact tone and built in wifi so you can upload of your laptop new sounds and never have to buy a guitar cord again. But I de-railed myself.
Anyway From what I read those are supposed to be some great Metal PU's with teh best features of Passive and active all in one. I am curious to actually hear how they sound
