Throw me a bucker!

Re: Throw me a bucker!

Hmm .... I've listened to custom .... itsve very precise and cut through, but to my ears its very cold, no creamy warmth at all ...

Then how about the Custom Custom? It's a warmer Custom with an A2 Magnet.

PGs were actually modelled after Billy Gibbons LP pickups. So maybe the CC in the bridge and the PG in the neck?

JB ? hmm did not expect to hear that one .... really? I had a PGP before, isnt it very close to a 59? It was a little too low out put for me, maybe I should try it again ... P-90, a real PAF or a duncan version? As far as wiring a neck invader, I am a single coil kinda guy when in comes to neck, strat. Is it possible to wire Invader paralles with a single coil?

How do you mean that... like having the invader in the neck and a single in the mid? Or one coil invader, the other one of a single? Basically, both is possibly, #2 you might not want to try at home since it involves cutting things permanently.

On the ceramic mag Custon I agree on it being a little "cold". The Custom wind with an A-8 swap is not so stiff and "cold" however.
There are three Custom variants the Custom with the Ceramic mag Custom Custom with the A-2 and the Custom 5. All are the same pickups only with different mags. I just take one of those and swap in an aftermarket Alnico 8. I currently have 3 Custom 8's in use.
The Alt 8 is the only current production A-8 I know of. The Alt 8is hotter and more compressed than the Custom 8 and a killer in it's own right.

Re: Throw me a bucker!

I really like my C5 in my PRS SC and I play similar music. My phat cats are cool too. I really want to try a brobucker as well, but don't have the funds or another guitar to put it in.

Re: Throw me a bucker!

Hmm .... I have my first guitar - a plywood barreta with some duncan, and I like it bettern than my invader, I think invader is not it for what I am after these days ... I've listened to that custom link and its just missing something, I am thinking about a fullshred again, its so creamy and warm, plus somebody said that is the most "single coilish" bucker you can find as far as focus and clarity ....

I think the Full Shred does a great YJM impression with the right amp. I'm not sure I'd call it 'creamy' as much as I would call it precise, focused.

I have to admit I am a bit confused as to how a Southern Rock sound meshes much with Lynch and 70's Metal. Can you give more of an idea about which way you're leaning more? For example, should we be thinking more PAF (old school Southern Rock) or more Lynch/EuroMetal (which could call for a JB).

I am leading toward Wicked Sensation Lynch, not Dokken. I dont know the clips of Custom i've heard they just dont have that warm chime I am looking for ... PAF is that a 59 in Duncan world?

Re: Throw me a bucker!

Now this is disturbing, I've head PGP+ which from what I hear is very close to 59, I've listened to some clips of pearly gates and I like it better than custom but I am not sure that I like it that much ... 59s I did not like that much, not enough mids for me ... kinda scooped. This sucks ... I am becoming a pup tweaker ...

Re: Throw me a bucker!

Well there are different links of the chain that you can change as well.

First, I'd have the band meeting, etc, and really decide where you want to go with the tone. Then you should decide, if you want to change, how best to get there. If the tone is mostly there, then you can be a 'pup tweaker' I guess; otherwise you can consider changing something else.

Yep, I think you've just nailed it. We've just started, and for the next few months it will be writing stage, with most of the time spent on practice amps in a badroom working on parts, melodies, lyrics etc ... I guess one of the things that happen when you are on this forum, you have couple of weeks where you are off your game or in a new territory and you falll off the GAS wagon right away ....
