Very nice lead tone.

Know what it sounded like in my BC RICH?

Exactly like in the solo "For the love of God."

(Watches as 30 people run out the door and get an 85.)

And the 60 in the neck does have a different sound about it, but I love it. AFAIK it was originaly an active mini humbucker designed by EMG for fender but never took off so they put it under an EMG cover and sold it as the 60.

Really?? The 60 is based off of a mini-bucker???

In any event, it's my favorite neck pickup....EVER. It does cleans beautifully....some of the thickness of a hum but more clarity like the chiminess of a single coil. And for leads it just has a lot of character IMO. I think it's probably the most versatile neck pickup ever.....it can sound like a single coil or all-out hum depending on how high you set it and how much gain you run it into.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

Project finished. Does a Gold Top ever look Rock with two blacked out hums in it.

On a side note....has anyone used an EMG PA2 or Pi2? I have a hole left over from the coil split switch and I'm not 100% sure what I want to do with it.

yeah, gold tops look great with EMGs. i saw zakk with one a while back (just a plain gold top, not the gold bullseye) and ive been a fan of the look ever since

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

The hole's located between the bridge volume and tone pots.....so there really isn't enough room for a pot in there.

That sucks. I've used the pot version of the PA-2, and I like the SPC better.

That said, the gain booster definitely doesn't suck.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

Maybe I'll go for the Pi2. I'm not really into OD pedals so I doubt I'd get much use out of a PA2, though I also question how much I'd use the Pi2. Either way, I'm mostly doing this so I have something to fill the hole. I'd plug it with a dummy switch, but if I'm going to have a switch on the guitar I want it to do something, even if I rarely ever use it.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

I could possibly lend you a set of Livewires if you wanted to try before you buy...

PM me if you're interested.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

I played an Ibanez that had a bass cut switch. It was pretty cool, especially for playing rhythm on the neck pickup.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

I absolutely hate actives -- they sound sterile, loud, but mainly just piercing to my ears. Very unnatural, IMO.

The only place for them in my mind, is in basses, where they bring out some "punch", and liven it up a bit.

Maby you should get yourself a new amp ! What amp are you using?

Mesa MkIII Simul-Class
Mesa Rectifier
Orange Rocker 30

The amps aren't the problem....I like the way they sound.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

Somehow, I'm still surprised that people can't accept that you like EMGs better.

Re: Throwing in the towel (so to say).....

At this very moment, actually :D

(He just put the headphones on his dad, and blasted "Van Halen" at him)

What, just like a JB?

LMAO...tell that to James Tyler and all the other premium luthiers that use them. I have heard the JB described as may different things, but sterile isn't one of them.

BTW-all the people that are stating to use the Custom, I feel is actually more piercing. I just heard the sound sample, had to turn it off. Must be that Ceramic magnet!

*assumes Monty Python air*
So? Have you taken yourself off yet, or are you going to hang around until you've proved that all active pickup lovers are going to hell? :D
