Time for a new wah (again)

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

I've tried a few different Wah's.... I keep going back Dunlop Crybaby... This time around I have a Crybaby Mini. Sounds just as good as the Classic and fits on the board nicely. I've tried Morely and Weeping Demon. Neither sounded like a Crybaby.

I keep hearing people say that the CB Mini is actually better sounding than the regular GCB-95.

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

I had a Vox standard issue wah for over ten years... never had any problems, just wanted something different.

I shopped around a got a Morley MSW Maverick (mini wah) on a whim. This thing is great, you step on it, it turns on - you have a red LED to indicate that it's up and running, you take your foot off and the wah is back off. Totally switchless, 100% optical. Didn't know what I would think of it, but ended up really liking it. Wah is my go to effect, so it was pretty important to me to have a decent, throaty wah sound, and it fit the bill. I got it brand new off of reverb for $65, and the store threw in new patch cables.

The best part of the mini is the foot print is smaller, so it free'd up space on the board. They also sell the full size version if you want the bigger foot switch, but I had no problem making the transition.

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

There weren't a lot of choices...remember the DOD wah? Yikes...

Yes, I remember it. I was sixteen and sold on DOD pedals. I thought I was going to sound just like Jimi Hendrix.

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

You really can't beat the AMT Japanese Girl Wah. (Don't ask me where they came up with that name.) 3-position Q-switch. Optical "pot". Killer/sweet. ;)

Is the Mini true bypass? The regular size GCB-95 isn't, at least not yet (one day).

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

As long as you're on the subject, let me hijack for a moment.

How hard is it to find reliable replacement racks or rack and pinion kits? Are they all standardized as far as size and # of teeth?

This just crossed my mind while I was reading this thread. I have a couple of really old odd wahs that need fixed.

Here's one retailer - http://amprepairparts.com/dunlop.htm
Here's another one - https://www.banzaimusic.com/Generic-Rack-Gear.html

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

Is that a big deal? My Rocktron Classic Wah is true bypass for half the price of the baby.

Right, there's more & more true bypass wahs these days. The advantage with the Dunlop Mini is a small footprint on a pedal board. You're going to pay extra if you want that.

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

Mod it, or stick it after a pedal that is still buffered when deactivated.

Re: Time for a new wah (again)

I didn't realize that they made a Jr. version.

I LOVE my Weeping Demon. It's a great, versatile, highely TWEAKABLE pedal.

Don't think it was made for very long. It's long since discontinued, and there's just one English video for it on the tube, some lo-res promo thing Ibby made ten years ago or so.
