Time for a PRS thread??????

In light of Lew's new addition, and the fact that I don't think I've ever seen a thread dedicated to PRS porn.... let's see them. Tell us about your pick up experiences, any mods and any other info. I know there's a lot of folk who don't like them as they aren't an LP or a Strat, but that's why I DO like them. Let's just see some PRS love.

Edit. I changed the bridge RP pick up for a Brobucker and it really brings this guitar out of it's shell. A hot PAF sound with a modern twist.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

In acquisition order then...

Custom 22 Artist

Soapbar SE (one of the original ones)

513

Korina SE

The Korina is the only one that's had the pups changed, it now has the SD 'Whole Lotta Humbucker' set in it. They might get swapped out at some point though, as it can sometimes get a bit bright.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

Ooh! Those look a bit big - seen worse in here though :D

Yeah Lol... don't know how to resize them? Never mind.

Chris, those look awesome, but that 513 is spectacular. Can you really get loads of different sounds from that set up? Personally I really think they look fantastic, unique and strange at the same time.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

My 07 PRS Custom 24 stone stock with the HFS/VB and 5 way rotary and it's staying that way!
Those who talk smack about the 5 way rotary just don't know how to use one properly!!
Have not put this one down since I bought it in Nov of 11!!

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

My beloved 513 one off !
The only one on Earth in solid mahogany...and the only yellow one.The only one with East Indian Black Rosewood Fretboard.

Bone stock except for the stripe tape. I did it myself. They know about it at the factory too. They thought I painted that on...were about to kidnap me and chain me in the paint booth....then I said..its Avery Graphics vinyl lettering tape. I cut it out with scissors...peel and stick. Peel and Remove with hair dryer.

They call it HD Yellow at the factory. I call it "Puddin"...

Love that Rootbeer 513 !
Im a sucker for Rootbeer, hot reds, gold top, triburst.
It wasnt the color of my 513 that had me calling the bank...twas the tone.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

This is the only pic I have of mine and it's not a very good 1 I'm afraid:

It's my 1997 Vintage Yellow (in person it's more Orange or Amber than Yellow) Custom 22 Trem.

When I got it the electronics had already been changed to the 3way switch and push/pull tone control but the wiring was totally screwed. It all got stripped out, redone and I put a set of Bareknuckle Abraxas AIV pickups in it and used the push/pull pot to split the neck pickup.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

Just a 22 circa 02. (Note Gilmour approved shortened wiggle stick) Best gig instrument I've ever had. It's never let me down once after hundreds of shows even an outdoor gig at a very chilly 25 degrees. The neck pup and position 4 sounds are bang on though I wish the bridge bucker had a bit more bite. (if I had to describe the PRS pups I would say smooooth like a 24 year old single malt) My Lonestar Strat has a proprietary Duncan HB in the bridge that I'd like to try in the bridge of the PRS. I want to make the Strat a SSS so I figure it's worth a try.

I like them too, although I don't have one or play one. I have to have respect for somebody to really come up with a completely original guitar that cool even if its not exactly my thing. Plus the craftsmanship and the quality of materials is top drawer. Recently, an old friend talked to me about building him a guitar. When I asked him what he liked in a guitar, I told him to first look into PRS SE guitars as they fitted his likes and needs. I checked some out to reccomend to him and was blown away by how good they were. I can't build something like that for the price.

You can get loads of sounds out of it. It's probably the most versatile guitar I have. The singles come across differently to a Strat, but they are still single coil tones, and you get that in-between quack too. The two humbucker positions give you what they call 'Vintage' and 'Modern' sounds, the latter being a bit thicker and higher gain. It's actually taken me quite a while to appreciate what it's capable of - it's a damn sight better than I am. The one thing you do notice quite quickly, is that it has very tall frets; you can really get your fingers under them for bends and so on. The only thing I don't like about it is the balance when sitting down - it tends to want to head to the floor, body first, so you have to find a way of getting it to stick there - standing up it's fine though.

Re: Time for a PRS thread??????

All great looking guitars here now guys, keep them coming. I should imagine those vintage yellow ones are going to be going up in value too.

Chris - one day I'll check one of those out but it's going to be a while. I think they are a killer modern take on the electric guitar.

Gorgeous. I looked at a few in Whale Blue and Matteo Blue. I'd still like to have one.
