Put it this way, the 5150 already has more gain than is useable. What would be the point of having more???

Depends on the tone you want, I like the 5150II and 6505+ far better than the normal models...

And the cab/speakers are exactly what I'm looking for...

Well you said your amp sounded thin with the gain below 5 and thats not good, thats why i suggested other speakers

I borrowed an original 5150 head to a/b against my rack gear which consists of:
Line6 PODpro II, DBX 215 Graphic EQ, Mesa 2:100 Rectifier power amp and
2 Marshall 1960BV cabs.
I used the "Modern Hi-gain" setting which is supposed to be like a Soldano/5150 setting on the POD to compare to the 5150 and I sh1t you not, they sounded identical. So I didn't get the 5150 and my rack actually has more than just a useable clean channel and the 5150 doesn't. The 5150 is a killer head though, and I might get one one of these days and maybe have a bias mod added to it.
