Tips for mobilizing a twin reverb?

I have a Yamaha G100 which is a twin reverb clone. I absolutely love the thing but it is really heavy... I can barely lift it and I am a big guy.

I know about Neo speakers (how much weight would be taken off that would be noticeable?) and are there any other options to make it a little more moveable?

Buy a head cab for the Chassis.
Leave the Verb and speakers in the "old" combo cab.

Maybe just get a dolly?

Man up...

For real...I used to do EVERY gig with a Twin Reverb (which out weights a G100 by a good bit!) and thats just part of the game.

24" x 36" Two Shelf Steel Service Cart

You can get one of these from harbour freight and bolt the amp to the bottom tray. Attach the handle to the bottom so you can use it like a handcart for any stairs. The top tray is great for your guitar, pedals and cables if you can secure them with bungies. They run about $50, but you should be able to find a 20% off coupon in your local paper.

Re: Tips for mobilizing a twin reverb?

The G50 that I use at practice is a heavy amp for its size. Reminds me of my old Mesa/Boogie Mk. III 1x12 combo in terms of size:weight ratio. That thing was about the size of a Princeton, but it weighed about 70 lbs. I imagine the G100, having an extra speaker and heavier transformers, is at least as heavy as a Twin, and maybe more so. However, it isn't so much the weight, but the fact that it is all distributed into the palm of your hand with that thin handle, and you can't use your strongest muscles to heft the thing. So, I say grab it like a big box, from the bottom, with two hands, held against your torso. Or, better yet:

I would say that wheels were invented for a reason. Plus getting the cab of the ground will reduce muddiness if thats at all an issue...

Re: Tips for mobilizing a twin reverb?

I'd recommend either getting a donkey or a really overweight girlfriend that has self esteem issues...they usually will do pretty much anything you want them to and they can tolerate a lot of weight.

I agree with the dolly. Casters suck on anything but a flat floor. Twins do weigh a lot.

In the end there is only one cure for heavy amps.

Move somewhere with less gravity.
