Tips on improving the palm mute sound with your guitar or/and amp.

hi guys, just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to improve my palm muted sound. at the minute the notes on the low e string are just too muddy, not clear enough. what factors could be cauing this? what things could i change or adjust to try to improve this? thanks

What's the guitar, amp, and pickups? Sometimes it's the guitar makeup, not the technique, that can lead to sloppy or muddy bottom ends.

my guitar is a B.C Rich bodyart V. My pickup is a Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom and i am now usuing my Laney MXD120 twin. not sure what size strings, regular sized ernie ball i think.

would chaning the low e string to a different gauge help with the clarity and punchiness of my palm mutes? if yes then would i need a heavier or lighter string?

You could try switching to a thicker gauge. You could use an EQ to tailor the sound... Errrm different amp?

Using thick strings will give you a "fatter" sound. But one thing I can say about palm-muting is this: USE A THICK PICK. The pick is where the strings com into contact with the you--the player. Using a thick pick will make things more "defined" and give you that mean tone.

Try increasing treble and presence on the amp a little and take off a little bass. But i dont know alot about your amp.
