to anyone who has played the Fender/evh frankenstein...

...I've got a question:

what was the weight like? -apparently the frankies are very closely matched to the weight of the original, and I've never read anything conclusive about the weight of Ed's guitar. I even forgot to ask him about it when I met him.

So if you played one at NAMM, let me know...

Re: to anyone who has played the Fender/evh frankenstein...

Dude that is my question as well for both is home mades.

The Franky AND the 5150.

I have heard that the Franky was quite a brick and the 5150 is like a feather. Which leads me to believe the latter was made of Basswood.

Re: to anyone who has played the Fender/evh frankenstein...

The original was made of hard ash, so it would be pretty heavy.

I think Kramer used alder for the bodies in the 5150's day, pretty sure Ibanez was the only company using basswood then (I can't guarantee this statement).

Re: to anyone who has played the Fender/evh frankenstein...

Yeah, the original was a bit heavier than average. It was a Boogie Body brand strat replacement body in Swamp Ash. The Fender replica should have a good amount of weight to it for a strat, much like the Hamer Chaparrals in the late 80s/early 90s. They were one peice Honduras Mahogany, but heavy as can be imagined.

Didn´t play it at NAMM but at Fender Europe in Düsseldorf, but the weight of this instrument is slightly above average for a strat, I´d guess around 8.5 /9 pound-ish ;)

Northern hard Ash... Not Swamp Ash

Re: to anyone who has played the Fender/evh frankenstein...

I have always read Swamp Ash, but I'd say it's closer in tone to Northern Hard Ash.

Fender Düsseldorf is not a store, but the HQ for eurpean distribution, and therefore is not "open to the public" ;)
