Today's Treble Booster Users

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

Yep, I've read thay GL used a treble booster back in the begining. But I guess he switched to TS808 because it pushed his plexis further, but the tightness is on the TB's side - think sabbath's "Children of the Grave." I really want one .... but lambda and other upgrades that for PC to start recording at home is first. But you've guys convinced me, the decision is between Analog man's Bueno boost and some flavor of BSM's ... hmmm ...

Well, FWIW...a Rangemaster will push "further" than a TS...however when George was using a Rangemaster it was an original and they can not be footswitched off, they are kind of big and the originals are often noisey.

The BSM stuff is cool but to me the Beano is the cream of the crop...

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

We have a ThroBak StrangeMaster that has proved to be "just the right thing" when somebody was in need of a treble boost.

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

I just got done building the BYOC TriBoost. I don't know how faithful to the original the range master setting is, but I sure do enjoy it. The treble boost is a little too much with a telecaster and a fender amp so I've been using the full boost.

:blackeye: I am sorry sir, I forgot who I was talking to .... The reason i assumed this(assumption is the mother of all f'ups) is that I've read that TS808/9 basically made treble boosters uncool an prehistoric, if you played heavy stuff you either had a tube screamer or people questioned your sexual orientation. Werent Maiden guys who put the TS on the map?

Im not sure what you are getting at...treble boosters came to fall so to speak simply because they were not convient...the early ones were big, had no footswitch and often made a bit more noise than a lot of players wanted to deal with.

What I do know is that a Rangemaster (or clone) when cranked all the way up will smack your amp more (to my ears) than any TS I've ever heard.

Im not sure who put the TS on the map (but I'd love to smack him in the head!:chairshot)...not that it matters...TS pedals and Trebleboosters are night and day sounding pedals...both are useful to somebody...

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

Christian, trust me dude, I CAN HEAR the difference, I love my Spina TS9 but I cant wait to get a treble booster, to my ears the treble booster pushed amp is a lot more clearer, you hear every note, its like two amps one clean and one overdriven to hell ran together, I dont know how else to describe it.

Hear the difference in what?? I don't recall this part of the thread...

What Im saying is that a TS and a rangemaster are very different beasts...not better or worse just different. If you want to try a rangemaster the BYOC Triboost is a pretty good low buck way to get started plus you get 2 other pretty cool settings.

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

I can hear that TB is getting amp to saturate differently than TS. I have 0 skills to put a BYOC unit, and dont know anybody who will do it for me. Its gonna be between AM or BSM.

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

Well yes, BSM has a lot to offer
I am leading to Fireball but I am not looking to copy RB's tone I just want a touch of it in my relatively high gain thing - cranked Laney AOR, and this here bothers me as I usually use invader, planing to give Full Shred a try:
"The HS / Fireball Treble Booster has been specifically designed for single coil pickups with a relatively low coil inductance, such as pickups in Fender, Rickenbacker, Burns or Vox guitars. On these pickups, the Fireball produces (with the volume control of the guitar turned up to the max) a fat, biting and penetrating lead sound, minus any shrill characteristics. By lowering the guitar's volume control, many shades of crunch can be easily dialed in. Another thing to consider is that when a guitar amp's volume is turned up (reaching saturation), the power amp normally begins to mute the highs, which results in a duller sound."

I would love to have RPA Special but then this is throwing me off
"Plug it in front of the CLEAN or CRUNCH channel, but don´t use the high-gain or distortion channel !"

And of course there is "RM Metal" booster modelled after Iommi's booster that he used on SB's second album ....

BSM does have a lot of options but with the 3 way switch on a Beano you can get a LOT of killer sounds that work well on a lot of different guitars...

Not trying to sell you on AnalogMan just saying...

Re: Today's Treble Booster Users

TGWIF, I think it will be an Analog Man, cause the difference in price is very signifcant, I am willing to pay that for Parachute Whah re-make, but for TB? Plus build quality is equivalent. Yep, I think I've made up my mind ...
