Any of the big pedal makers like Ibanez, Boss, Digitech, etc. make any decent treble boosters?

Not sure, but if they did, I don't think I'd want one. In the case of treble boosts, quality makes all the difference in the world -- even more so than with most other effects.

Ahh, so it's an OD and a freq booster 2-in-1... sort of.
Got it. I'd love one of these, because the Vox model on my amp sounds too gentle... sounds Vox in a U2, Beatles way. I'd like it to sound Vox in a Brian May, Blackmore way. It could definitely get there, I'm sure of it, but it needs more bite!

It's not really an OD in the since that I woudl not want to run a treble booster into a BF Fender amp and use it for dirt but I guess you are looking at it in the best way...once you plug into one it all becomes clear!

I don't think any of the bigboys are messing with them...for one thing all the bigger pedal guys (Boss, DOD, Ibanez, etc) use buffers for switching and transister boosters do not play well wiht buffers so they would be making a pedal that by it's own nature didn't work well with their other pedals!

If you want to get into a TB on the low...the BYOC is the ticket I think and if you happen to end up wiht a kit with a crap tranny Small bear sells some you could try. The Beano Boost by AnalogMan really is the best of the best to me and when compared to other TB's it's not near as much $$$.

I think BBE is making a TB right now thats not too much $$$ and maybe one or 2 others...

You can, however, put your wah first if it's true bypass, like a Teese. That how I do it.

Ahh..sorry! I totally forgot wahs...but putting other true bypass pedals before FFs/TBs wouldn't make much sense. These two circuits do a good job of pushing other ODs/Dists, but I doubt they sound good with something pushing them.

As for Ibanez, Boss, Digitech not making TBs, its probably because it is not something which suits mass production. The Ge transistors are rare, costly and need to be hand picked. They also tend to drift with temperature change.

Two more questions, most of the stuff I will be doing is oriented toward a mix between current Iommi tone and general european powermetal, I also use my single coil in the neck for leads a lot, which one would be more for me TMB or BB? And is there any info if Uli used rangemaster during his scorpions days? Thanks.

Not sure abotu Uli at all but for Iommi stuff just go for the Beano...hell, it's a copy of what he used in the 70's and it IS what he uses today!

Now here is problem, I am very happy with my Bad Horsie I whah, but I love it first in line BEFORE my TS, i guess I have to buy AM's BB together with my chicago iron whah to have the whole Iommi element of my tone going ... seriously, BH has a buffer, so BB will have to be first ?

I;ve not tried a Morley wah in years (many, many years) and never with a Rangemaster or Fuzz Face so I can't say for sure but I would guess yes...

If you want to know for sure email Mike and ask him...he's a hella nice guy and more than likely knows right off the top of his head!

I do know that the Beano will have to go before the TS...

The intensity control kinda adds more harmonics and a tiny bit of od/grit

I usually have my TMB on the entire time I play and switch to the modern channel with warp drive for solos. So good...

Yup, that's pretty much it. I think having the Intensity control dimed is equivalent to the stock setting of the Rangemaster, and you can back it off to reduce the amount of bite you get to make it more subtle. I keep the Intensity control dimed all the time. Cuts through nicely.

This is a clip Les Paul into my TMB, then into a cranked AC30. I'm using the Vintage side of the TMB, with the toggle set to "1973" for a deeper sound.

I made this clip a while ago, and it's the first time I ever attempted to double-track a guitar line, so excuse the poor timing, but it should give you a good idea of how much a TMB (and likely a BB) can push the tone over the edge.

There is absolutely no post-production processing on this. It's just the guitar into the TMB, then straight into the AC30.

Reading this thread is giving me Rangemaster GAS. Honestly the GAS to aquire a Sunlion is getting pretty strong as well. I know it's not a total tonebender clone, but it it gets close I might just have to go there due to the fact that it's a sweet rangemaster clone to boot.

I know a lot of guys (Mike included) bill the Sunlion with both the Beano and the FF stacked as being like a Tonebender but Im not one of them...in fact it was nothing like a Tonebender to me...I've tried everything with my beano and AM FF to get Tonebender like tones and no dice...

How much difference in tone is there between the 1966 side and the 1973 side?? I assume both those tones could be covered with the 3 way toggle on the BB...

Any idea what Bob uses for trannys in the TMB??

Well, it's such a subjective thing that illustrating the difference requires a sound clip. (Yeah, I know. I'll get out the microphone.)

The 1966 side is thinner and better suited for lighter overdrive. The 1973 side is pretty full and darker.

No need for a clip...I understand completely! The first and second position on the BB are kind of mild sometimes but at other times they are very clear, the third setting is a monster...bottom end all damn day!
