tonal capabilities of a SD blackout as passive?

I was wondering if someone could help me...

I believe this is an older SD Blackout which i had brought from a friend some time ago and only just getting round to install it, however I recall being told I could set this up as a passive and there is a ton of cable coming out of the pickup, i'm curious to know how to go about this as well as what are the tonal differences to it being passive rather then active??

Any help/assistance would be hugely appreciated!

welcome to the forum!

not sure how you can run an active pup as passive. without a battery, you wont get sound. the preamp is part of the pup and since its encased in epoxy i dont think you could separate them without killing the pup

They'll do a great job of passively holding down paper if its a bit breezy.

Hey! thanks for the warm welcome aha!

Well, this is what my school of thought initially was and seeing the cable coming out of the pickup is what confused me as I am aware they are an active pickup...

Anywho, I've decided to use wire it up as it should be along with an EMG 81 in the neck pickup in an Ibanez guitar which currently has the stock infinity pickups (which I can't stand) so I'm sure this'll roar like a beast in no time all being well! :D

Well, I had nothing to add as I know SFA about blackouts.....so comic relief was my best bet.
