tone pot, audio taper or linear?

Hi @all,

each tutorial about Git-wiring tells to use an audio taper for volume control for reasons known to everyone here. But what about the tone pot? I always thought that a linear should be right for that - until I bought one from Fender which was audio taper too.

Which type of pots do Strat, LP and Co use - I don't own any of the major brands?

Re: tone pot, audio taper or linear?

I use the same audio taper pots for tone and volume ...

as you know, the sweep on audio tapers more closely resembles our hearing ....
if you were to see the curve of the volume increase, it looks like the right side of the letter "U" ... the volume rises with the "square" of the increase

or something like that

audio just sounds better :)

im on the same page as curly, i use audio taper for both

Re: tone pot, audio taper or linear?

Audio tapers sound more natural and the taper is better, especially for tone pots.

Having tried both, I think audio taper is the best way to go for both volume and tone controls.
