tone pot questions......

I replaced the tone pot in a Schecter ('96 MIK)......500k factory Alpha for a 500K CTS; the old pot had a definant "cross-over spot"...the new one is much smoother in the transition.......I put a .22 cap on it Vs a .33 or .47 so the bleed would'nt be as pronounced.

My Tone control sounds like a wet wool blanket over the sound, that's the best way to describe it......going from treble cut-off to wide open.....envision a wet wool blanket being slowly raised from your amp while you're playing..that's what it sounds like.

I have to cut my trebs sometimes, and use the volume and tone to take the "bite" off....I use the #4 position on a 5-way switch a lot, and pick ups are a Dirty Fingers bridge and JB Bridge PU in the neck.

Would changing caps change that wool-blanket sound?

If you used a .22 mfd. cap that's the problem. It should have been a .022 mfd. cap.

Re: tone pot questions......

I also like to retain some upper mids when I roll off the treble so I use .010mf caps on a 500k pot in my LPs. Sounds great. Even with the treble rolled off it still sounds fresh, just not so piercing.
