Toneport tips anyone?

I find my Toneport is great for making recordings, but I struggle to get a really good tone from it.
It seems to work better with low output pickups, and struggles to get a good "thrash" type heavy distorted tone, even using my Blackouts. EIther seems to be overpowered with fizz or totally lacks bite.

Anyone got any tips on using these things?

Re: Toneport tips anyone?

Never tried the toneport, but I have a PODxt, which has the same amp models and such.

Lower output pickups tend to sound a bit bigger, and more open. I don't use actives, but I have an X2N7 which is quite powerful, and it's a little choked sounding with high gain tones. Remedy to this is to lower the amp gain to just below full metal saturation (on some amp models this might be at 15%-30%), and push with the screamer stompbox model (drive 0, gain 50-70), or possibly a compressor model (works great with some amp models, crap with others). This creates a full-on metal tone, with more articulation, and less fizz.

Which amp model do you prefer?
Do you have the metal pack?

Thanks for the reply mate. I prefer the Marshall models, I think it's the JCM900 one I use al the time.
I don't have the metal pack, since I've found the metal tones on the stock pack to sound pretty rough. Is it worth getting?

Re: Toneport tips anyone?

The metal pack has some nice things in it. I use the Evanescence preset that I have tweaked and a JCM 800 patch as well as the Metallica preset tweaked.

I have attached three of my presets, hope they work for you. :) Try different amps with them.

Re: Toneport tips anyone?

I believe that's the jcm800 model, which isn't bad, but kind of flat sounding to me.
Running the amp, low-gain (40-50% iirc), and pushed with the screamer might help out.

The metal pack has the silver jubilee model which is quite good, and jcm2000 models which are pretty crappy, IMO.--Not much for marshall tones, really.
Bogner Uberschall is monsterous.
The Diezel model can get fairly close to a marshall, but takes alot of tweaking.
