Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

OMG - I went through all that work to figure out the tubes etc and then I scroll down to the bottom of the thread and see it all laid out like Thanksgiving dinner. At least I know for sure now... ;)

This sounds like a real winner of a pedal. I can't wait to play one in person.

From the manual...

The Twin Tube Classic is designed for years of solid performance. One of the secrets is the duo of type 6021 tubes. These sub-miniature triodes represent the pinnacle of tube technology advancement. The 6021s were designed and manufactured to meet the MIL-E-1 spec for reliability under conditions of severe shock, vibration and temperature. They provide extremely long service life with virtually no tendency towards microphonics (see USA Department of Defense Standards, Test Methods for Electron Tubes). Also, unlike some “tube” stomp boxes that only use the tubes as a clipping diode, the Twin Tube Classic employs a 100% vacuum tube signal path with a high voltage power supply. This allows the tubes to operate to their fullest potential and provides the most gain and the smoothest tone. The result is the classic tube sound, smooth distortion, and low order harmonics you expect from a great tube preamp.

my god, this thing is perfect for a one channel class A combo like my Palamino V16.
thank you!

it is perfect for a single channel amp that you like the tone of but want more flexibility...

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

here's what I dug up about them tubes:

Potential 6021W Projects

* Overdrive pedal, Matchless style
* Overdrive pedal—sky’s the limit (dumble style? 3 tubes & 6 gain stages, fuuuullll shred?)
* Tube Buffer, like the Valvulator
* Tube Tremolo pedal, like the Matchless Vibrobox
* Standalone preamps
* Micro amp, like the Nanohead or PowerMan
* Hi-Fi—headphone amp, computer audio amp, preamp
* Tube microphone preamp

High Voltage Sub-Minis

This is a table of some of the sub-miniature tubes which run on 6.3V heaters and high voltage (>100V) B+ and are probably well suited to guitar projects.
100volts? how big and heavy is this thing?

I've never fully understand pre-amp tube pedals like this one.

Would I put it in front of my amp like a regular distortion pedal, or would i use it plugged into the FX Loop return?

Just like adding two extra tubes between your guitar and the amp. Just think of it as one truly KICK ASS distortion pedal and you're gold.

Someone compare it to a V-Twin, if you've played through both. How do they compare?

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Re-asking a couple of questions that have already been asked...for those of you who've seen it, how big is this thing? And what's the expected street price?

:bowdown:

I'll get one, but I won't like waiting till March. :(

All I saw at UGD was that it was blue. Cool.

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

It's a big pedal. It's the biggest pedal on my board. Plus, it can only run on AC power (no batteries). So it's a commitment (as Blues Saraceno, one of the beta testers said).

But on the plus-side, the thing sounds really great. And it's totally quiet. It's versatile as all heck. The mil-spec 6021s represent the pinnacle of tube technology. And it's a little smaller than the unit the UGD participants saw. And the colors and graphics are totally different.

You have to wait a few days for a picture.

USA list price is $299. Street should be somewhere around $210 in the USA.

Boutique quality for reasonable prices. That's what we're going for.

If you're attending NAMM, you'll get to play it. Just stop by the SD booth.

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

The most obvious comparison (to me) is to the V-Twin. I would love to hear how they compare.

You guys are really testing my loyalties, here...lol
