Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Re: Tomorrow Night We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Evan has already answered a good bit of these questions but I'll tell you guys this...it is pretty large and it is pretty heavy but it does sound kick ass! As for the SFX-03 vs V-Twin, IMO there is no contest...the V-Twin pails when compared to the SFX-03...now, I only tried a V-Twin a few times and never for more than a few minutes at a shot (I just never found a good tone) and I did have an SFX-03 for about a week so I am more "at home" with the SFX-03 for sure but I will say that I got some killer tones and was able to dial them in prety quick and easy. Since Evan said the street price is looking like the $210 range I will tell you all this, it is worth that and far more IMO!

Evan, Has there been any changes made in the SFX-03 since the one that I tried?

The most obvious comparison (to me) is to the V-Twin. I would love to hear how they compare.

You guys are really testing my loyalties, here...lol

Yah, a few changes.

We re-voiced the rhythm channel a bit to give it more crunch. And we changed the overall EQ to roll off some treble. We deleted the "hi/lo" switch. Also, we made it a little smaller and lighter and we put "air slits" on the side to cool the tubes.

And we gave it a name: the SFX-03 Twin Tube Classic.

do you have any comments regarding the amp after it?
solid state vs. tube,
class A vs. class A/B,
different brands, etc,

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

It works great with all amps: tube, solid state, A, A/B, Fender, Marshall (especially Marshall), Boogie, Krank, THD, 15 watt SS practice amps, etc. etc. I think where it shines the most is with a non-master volume amp. In essence, it'll give you three channels of tone: bypass, rhythm and lead.

This sounds SOOOOO cool I can't stand it! I would love more OD options pushing the front of my Mark IV.
I can't wait!!
SD ROCKS!!!!!

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

I'm totally on board with one of these....sounds great Evan!

Who is your evil genius behind this one??
This is totally home-grown effort (except for the graphics). Kevin Beller, our chief engineer, is the main designer. He's the same guy who designed the Seymour Duncan amp line in the mid-80s, including the Convertible, the Biamp 8000 bass head and the KTG-2100.

Wayne Rothermich is our electrical engineer who worked out a lot of the circuitry. The SFX-03 uses a fully encapsulated toroidal transformer and four gold relays for true bypass.

And James Stryker is our mechanical engineer, who figured out how to shave off some size and weight, in response to comments from beta testers.

The graphics and layout were done by an outside industrial designer named Greg Chambers, who has done a lot of work with us, especially on the D-TAR boxes.

That's it.

I feel this way right now. This product is coming out just in time for the impending arrival of the Edana next month or so. I'll take the Edana to a music store and plug one in for sure when it gets here. I gotta try before i buy, but it sure sounds like a winner on paper.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

i can imagine it though.. one of these into a valve power amp!

i just hope it's adjustable enough :D

it could turn into one of these modder's paradise pedals.. i say SD97 gets a free one to tinker with :D
