It sure looks nice, but what's it sound like? Just wondering what amps you've tried it thru? Does it sound best in certain amps?

I used it with both my Fender Twin Reverb and my Sound City 50+...great tone with both amps. It sounds like your amp but with 2 more channels...there have been a few changes made to the pedal since the prototype I tried and based on what Evan has tol me the changes are a good thing...it is gonna blow you guys away!

I need a user review on this, and what I'm really after is a comparison of this and the ToneBone Tri-mode - any takers? Thanks

I have posted several little bits in this thread about this pedal and thats as much of a full review as I can give you guys right now...I'll tell you this, I liked it far better than both the Mesa V-Twin and the Tonebone Hot Brittish.

Thank you. I'd be interested to read some reviews once the general public has a chance to try it out. Still looking for the "right pedal" for my Fender DRRI.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

it turned my Twin into a 3 channel beast that was able to go from fender clean (with the pedal off) to blues and classic rock OD (with the first channel on) to super high gain (on the 2nd channel). If you want to make your Deluxe a 3 channel monster with only one pedal in line, if you want true tube tone from 2 tubes, if you want lots if tonal options from a single channel amp this is the right pedal!

There is a certain amp called an EvanRude that I promise will sound good with this pedal! :) (or my name is mud)

My question is will EvanRude be ready on Saturday when  007 is going to be picked up???

Thanks again for the info. Sounds very promising.

Not even close.... just got the Sozo's in for it. I was going to use Orange Drops, but I changed my mind and went with SoZo's.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Pedal n00b clarification...if you like the OD channel already on your amp you're just as well off buying an OD pedal to push your tubes for half the cash?

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Yeah, but a good OD or clean boost will cost 2 thirds of the SD pedal anyway ;) And with this you do get a second channel. Think about it... You use it on the clean channel, and you can use the OD as an OD or clean boost and then use the Distortion. It's like having a SD1 and a DS1 at your feet, but with tubes. Sorry for the simplistic comparison :D

Not necessarily, you can pick up Hermida OD pedals for about $110-120 pretty easily.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

So this is (albeit much better)...still basically another tube preamp gain pedal...like a Chandler/Tubeworks Tubedriver...or similar..

ie. this in no way does anything to emulate power tube breakup/tone?

That's half the price of the SFX3 already.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Yeah but those small suckers will run at a measly 9v!!
And on the inside those things runs at a meagre 4-5 volts...not much juice to make anything from.
Apart from the TB thing I would very much like a pedal like that one:)

And this is sayin' a lot coming from a pedal designer himself. I know you have another designer for the tube stuff but still. :)

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

Hehe well I still only have gear that I use, I am no collector or lawyer bluesplayer type;)
I get gear that is cool and have some nice sounds:D
If I am out...we make something ourselves...just put some finishing touches to a rather fun delay project:D

No...every other tube OD unit I know of uses the tubes at very low voltages and uses the tubes as clipping diodes...not this one, it sounds very good IMO.

so it's emulating output tubes as well? by hitting the 6025s or whatever so hard?

This is key for me for giving it a try. I loved Rids Plexitone so much cos it sounds like a cranked Plexi...when it's set at a whisper, or at high volume...it emulates the whole shebang.

Re: Tonight We'll Unveil the SFX-03

It's not emulating anything...it IS tube distortion. It's not made to sound like a Plexi or a Vox or a tweed Fender or anything else, it simply adds 2 channels of pure tube gain to an amp...when I used it with my Twin rverb, it still sounded like my Twin but with more gain that any BF/SF Fender ever, when I used it with my Sound City it still sounded like my Sound City but again with gobs of gain on tap.
