Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

Slightly smaller body than a standard strat or the older model series charvels. Still great guitars though. If the neck is good and the price is right I'd say get it. If you like super strats these are great guitars.

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

IIRC, they were the "built overseas" versions.

The toothpaste logo Charvels were made in Japan, just like the earlier Model 1-6. The Charvettes were made in Korea; the necks are decent but bodies are plywood with lackluster hardware and electronics.

Ridiculously wide range of models at that point, right?

Boatload of different toothpaste logo models. They're generally decent but we'd need to know more to say if it's a good deal or not.

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

You described well my Model 3 !
The Korean-made bodies are plywood, but the Model 1-4 bodies are basswood. I'm currently in the process of refinishing a Model 2, and it's definitely not ply.

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

Mine is Basswood (Chushin Gakki, Nagano, 1986)

Sorry I though you were referring basswood as plywood.

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

Really going to need a picture or description to determine the model. Toothpaste logo came in '91. I have a 375 Deluxe wich rips. Give some more detail and we can give some better information!

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

So basically, a Charvel made in Japan by ESP.....I can live with that!

No, not by ESP. Japanese Kramers were made by ESP for a bit. These were made in the Chushin Gakki Factory up until '94 I believe, but I will have to double check that. Is this a pointy headstock?

Re: Toothpaste Logo Charvel?

Toothpaste logo is from about 1989-1992. They are great guitars, I’ve owned many. Most of the bolt on neck toothpaste logo charvels value $250 up to $500, maybe a little more depending on condition. The neck thru models will run a bit more, $500-$800, over a thousand if it’s a 750xl.

I love that they were called 'Fusion' but were anything but.

If that guitar is still all-original, it should contain the out-of-production Jackson JE-0005 special 5-way switch which yielded some cool pickup combinations.

The Admin "Tekky" at the JCF Online forum has a post saying that the default wiring scheme on the Predator using that switch gave both Neck + Bridge split and in parallel PLUS Neck + Bridge full in parallel PLUS Neck + Bridge in series (<-i think he meant to add "split" here too), here: https://www.jcfonline.com/forum/equipment/import-charvel-guitars/5925-predator-specs

Here is a writeup about what makes the JE-0005 special and customizable: http://charvelusa.com/charvel_shreds/j0005_switch.html
