Top 3 'MUST HAVES' in a guitar!

Re: Top 3 'MUST HAVES' in a guitar!

Your guitar HAS to have coil-tapping... so all those vintage guitars are disqualified... Nope you'll only play certain Gibson models from 2010 and more recent...

"Oh is that an original 1952 Fender Broadcaster... oh well... the original stock pickup isn't tapped so... NOT FOR ME..."

Re: Top 3 'MUST HAVES' in a guitar!

1. Solid hardware (no rattling.....prefer fixed bridge)
2. Low action neck and preferably 7.25 radius with medium frets
3. Vintage pickups

It's not a fun thread any more if we've got Siskel & Ebert in here ripping everyone's personal preference.

Or it's a requirement that he installs one if he buys it? I have a god damn Evertune on my list for chrissake - calm down a bit.

Okay, I should've been more specific, IF they have humbuckers.

1) pearloid stuff
2) blue
3) I dunno, playability I guess. No floating trems? I like those new IBBY r-neck thru guitars they posted on Fb

Re: Top 3 'MUST HAVES' in a guitar!

Ok lets clear something up. Just because a guitar doesn't have a particular thing mentioned, doesn't mean it is a deal breaker here I think. Just because it's not on there stock doesn't mean I would never pick it up. Obviously a lot of the things mentioned here are modifications usually done after the guitar is bought. I also believe any vintage stuff should be considered with an exception in mind. Just because some guy says he MUST HAVE 24 frets or something doesn't mean he won't still drool over a 59 Les Paul or a 57 Strat or a Nocaster or something. I think we are all talking about workhorse and performance guitars here rather than trophies.

Like I'm sure if Madmax found the Beano Les Paul he wouldn't dick around in it, but he was referring to guitars he regularly uses. And because he says he wants coil splits on his guitar we shouldn't assume he doesn't want any guitars with single coils in his collection, heck if anything it probably means he does.

Sorry, I apologize for that comment. I was out of line.

It was supposed to be a joke, but I forgot that this forum isn't so friendly about jokes like that. I didn't mean anything by it. Won't happen again.

Low action and small radius... wouldn't you fret out?
The guitar tech doing the set up for me has always been able to take care of any related problems. Whether fret buzz or fretting out, even if it takes him a while at times he is the closest we have available to a plek machine! No doubt though that if a lead guitar player wants to bend way more than over one full step up - he/she'd be better off raising the action a little and then could likely get up to 1.5 or more steps up. Most of my guitars are played by band members playing lead guitar. I play mostly rhythm so enjoy the specs/action I described.

Believe it or not, some folks in 2014 aren't interested in a 1952 Broadcaster sound, just like in 1952 there were some people not interested in a 1924 Gibson L5.

Re: Top 3 'MUST HAVES' in a guitar!

1958 no one wanted a V or an Explorer , heck a 59 standard Les Paul isn't really my cup of tea. I would sand the neck day 2 just like any guitar I get too.(feel free to throw stones now.)

1958 nobody even wanted a Les Paul, it got discontinued after 1960.
