Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

What would you say are the top 5 dirt boxes to try right now? I should have my wah fix by the end of next week, so now it's time to try out some dirt pedals. I am thinking about trying an MI Crunch Box, but other than that, I'm open to suggestions. :beerchug:

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

here are just a few i have thought were cool
catalinbread DLS
fulltone ocd
that $40 mxr classic distortion from guitar center.
lovepedal amp 50 is cool and not too high.
the newer blue hendrix fuzz face is nice
the way huge pork loin is supposed to be nice as well.
i am wanting to try some jetter pedals and to get another timmy. i have also been wanting to try more big muffs and rat pedals as well.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

these come to mind

Ocean EFX Pearl Drive
Barber Direct Drive
Barber Dirty Bomb
Okko Diablo
Devi Ever Shoe Gazer

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

Top 5...who knows! I can't keep up...dirt boxes are flying fast and furious these days.

The good thing is that there are a bunch of cool boxes out these days, even GC has a nice selection!

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

Current Top 5 according to the dirt box flav-of-the-week fashion junkies ? . . . i have NO IDEA :

However, here is my Top 5 GAS boxes : (dirt only)

* Analogman Pepermint Fuzz
* Keeley FuzzHead
* Roger Meyer VooDoo Axe
* Throbak Strange Master
* MSD Paraniod Dist.

. . . i was never one to follow fashion, gear or clothing.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

Rangemaster (well, a good clone, doubt you'll be running into a real one)

Monte Allums mod Boss SD-1

that's all i know. I'm a simpleton. hehe.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

Quite happy with the 2 on my board. Reverend Drivetrain-OD and the MI Crunch Box for distortion.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

look into the way huge, pork loin. it's a unique pedal. it's like an 808 but a very nice fuzz instead of a normal overdrive plus the tweakability of this pedal is out of this world.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

some readily available dirt boxes you should try if you can get hold of them imo. i am not including the klon, tim/timmy or dove/openhaus due to the price, long wait time or both.

wampler triple wreck - recto to marshall-esque at a flick of the toggle and footswitchable fuzz in a box.

blackout effectors musket fuzz - one heck of a versatile fuzz pedal that can go from fluid to djenty at a turn of a knob. based on a green russian.

discontinued catalinbread the silver kiss - low to mid gain od that can cop a hairy to grindy vox ac and fender blackface thanks to its powerful eq. can be used as a clean boost too.

proco rat - always brings a smile to my face by reminding me of the good ol' days. read that proco is releasing a limited edition white face rat.

fulltone ocd - another versatile od to distortion pedal that covers a lot of ground.

barber pedals - many flavors to choose from at a wonderful price point that most folks can afford.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

I'm not quite sure how to answer this, but I can give you five boxes that have received a lot of press:

ProCo RAT
Ibanez TS-808
Tim/Timmy
Klon Centaur
Analog Man King of Tone

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

I've tried about 0.1% of the dirt pedals on the market, so I'm not going to make a list.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

I'm thinking of getting a Tiimy and a KoT. I already have some Monte Allums Boss stuff. I'm mainly into it for just trying out different stuff at my own pace.

I've had a ton of recomendations for pedasls that sound like (insert whatever amp here) but that's not so much as what I'm looking for, if that makes any sense. There's tons of pedals out there that will make your solid state practice type amp sound like a Plexi, 800, Fender, Mesa, etc, etc. but I'm not looking for "flavor" pedals. I run through nothing but tube amps. Marshall and Fender to be extact and am just looking for "transparent" distortion boxes to try out.

To make it more simple, Boss puts out the Fender Basman and what-the-hell ever pedals to make your bedroom 10 watt Gorilla amp sound like a 65 Deluxe Reverb, 59 Bassman, etc.. I am not looking for that kind of pedal since I already have a Deluxe Reverb amp, if that makes sense. I'm wanting to try some great overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals that just do what they do and don't try to make the amp into something it's not.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

I'm certainly not up on everything that's out there but the MI Audio Crunchbox is a fantastic pedal. It sounds really organic in front of a slightly driven tube amp. Beautiful for swampy slide stuff when the distortion is set to the 9-10 o'clock range.

Another pedal I've tried recently and really been impressed with is the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Very versatile.

Re: Top 5 Dist/Fuzz/Od Boxes

Wampler Pedals Pinnacle
BOSS DS-1 (I prefer it modded but in the right set up stock it can sound good)
Wampler Pedals Plextortion (never played one but all I''ve heard it sound cool)
A Nice BIG MUFF!!
SD-1/TS style stuff has the right application too.
