What would you get between

and

ps: "Both" is not a good answer for me at this moment

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

Woah....I'd normally go explorer in a second, but not that color. Go with the SG.

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

This is a better picture of that explorer (Swamp Ash Studio)

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

i'd grab the explorer just because it's the underdog. i seem to see a lot more people with sgs than explorers.

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

that x-plorer is buttf*ckingugly dude, bufugly....

go with the SG, in a heartbeat, except in red, (looks 10Xbetter imo)

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

i was facing the same exact decision (except with a white standard explorer and red sg). i decided to go explorer, im only $100 away!

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

Dude the X-plorers are 30 times more kickass. except you can't really play them confortably sitting down.. more of a standing thing.. at least in my experiance.. but that color  i'd prolly take the black SG

but with the right color i'd take a X-plorer anytime

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

Its not just the color, that explorer is made of ash and will sound bright and nothing like a regular explorer. A regular 76 Explorer would be a better comparison to the SG, given those two choices there, the SG wins IMO hands-down.

why do you think the sg is better?

mostly because I prefer mahogany on 24.75 scale guitars. I do like ash strats because ash is brighter and snappier and to me suits a strat nicely. But I personally wouldn't want that bright, snappy tone in an Explorer - I would want thicker and darker tone in that style guitar.

this is the reason i'd say SG this time, although in reality i'd prefer an explorer

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

Definitely the SG. I tried a Swamp Ash Explorer last week, and was not impressed at all. Way tto bright for an Explorer and not "boomy" enough IMO.

The SG is obviously also tonally not the same as an EX, but at least an SG Standard sounds like an SG and not a strat :laugh2:

The explorer looks way cooler, no doubt. But an Ash Gibson is a sacrilege IMO, the Voodoos didn´t impress me for the same reason, all too bright and not "fat" enough :saeek: ;)

BTW, Hangar18: Explorers are just fine sitting down, the cut of the lower bout rests perfectly along my leg (and in my experience most others ;)). Flying Vs, on the other hand.... :smack:

In this specific case I'd go with the SG since I also agree that Ash Explorers sound like s**t. Given the choice between the Explorer '76 and SG Standard, I'd take the Explorer every time. Of the three colors currently available on the Explorer, I'd take white as it has an ebony fingerboard instead of rosewood.

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

I actually like the look of that explorer, looks hmm... RAW! But ive never played an ash guitar so wouldn't know about the sound. That SG looks tasty aswell, i personally wouldnt choose is because that shape dont suit me i think. Soundwise id choose the SG

Re: TORN Between SG and X-plorer

I'd say SG just because I don't like ash guitars. I almost bought a Voodoo SG till I pluged it in. Could have been the pickups that killed it for me, but my brother has an ESP explorer(in mahagony) thats pure thunder.
