Years ago when I had my SF Twin It was strelie an bright sounding. So
I Install the Torres pre-CBS mod. WOW ! Now the amp sounded warm
and had some overdrive to it YEA!! So when I got my Princeton ( like
a Dum bass) I put the cbs mod, the perfect prince mod (Which is his
Idea of fixing the Phase Inverter, Kinda of silly in retrospect) and a
kendricks blackframe speaker in it. well the amp sounded better than
stock But still hade some short comings. Like a very raggy low end
and very eary and harsh breakup. (must be the 10" speaker and
rectfier tube) NOPE ! So I put a Weber cali speaker in it. problem
solved? NOPE ! Now even worst. Later break up but really harsh
ratty distotion. Must be the tubes, So I retubed it. NOPE ! same
problem. So i do the Stokes mod (That moves the B+ voltage going
to the PI down stream) And the Paul C. mod ( a clever way to balance
the PI and get more headroom) Now the amp is real loud but still sounds
aweful. harsh breakup and raggy lowend. Must be the filter cap. NOPE !
I recaped the amp with orange drops and a new filter cap. Same Ole' same.
:smack: :duh: I'm getting ready to give up :yell: then someone suggested
to lost the torres mod. So last night I changed all the value's back to stock.
problem solved? You BETYA
the amp sounds better than ever now !!
Moral of the story... If you have a Princeton or deluxe No need for Torres mods. I just put over $175 in to this amp. To discover the $15 Torres
mod was the culprit. I always have to learn the hard way. :butkick:
