Tortex Wedge

Re: Tortex Wedge

Amazon keeps suggesting Dunlop “Big Stubby” picks to me. Anybody use these things???

I realize they’re not in the same league as the picks we’ve discussed here (and no: I’ve not yet pulled the trigger on a $75 guitar pick!!! LOL!!!) but they seem to be a pretty similar shape to the Primetones I’m using and from what I’ve read they’re actually harder and more robust than nylon so should keep their points not???

Re: Tortex Wedge

If you were in the US, I'd mail you a few Stubbies. I'm not a fan of the size, shape, feel, or tone. However, they're cheap, and since it's a pick you've never tried, you should.

Anything you DO like about them??? You at least alright with the color??? LOL!!!

Thank you. Nice thought.

They look neat... I don't think they're particularly tough, though. One of my has a big groove in the side, assuming from an aggressive pick slide.

If you don't wanna throw down on the BlueChip, contact Michel Wegen and have him make you something. I ordered two modified TF-140 picks from him, and I think he charged like a dollar extra ($16 for a pair).

Re: Tortex Wedge

Hello again.

It's not the money to be honest. It's just really difficult to gauge if you're ordering the right thing is all and on that score a $75 guitar pick is an expensive mistake if it's not right (and not to mention shipping costs and the time things take to get here). Know what I mean??? I mean to say I REALLY like these picks I'm using. It's just that they don't last AT ALL. Probably my playing style has everything to do with it because I don't see any complaints about them anywhere. Matter of fact it could even be my ineptness as a player i.e. I find that once the point has worn I tend to miss strings. This being said: there's a NOTABLE difference in attack and tone between a new pick and a pick I've been using for an hour or two. Dunno. Maybe a combination of both.

Actually and something I've always wondered about: is THIS the reason you get the Pros. that toss picks into the audience every other song???

Could be. I use and love Tortex purples but when I play on stage they get soft after one or two songs. They just get mushy on me and lose their snap. (A combination of the lights and my adrenaline-fueled "technique.")
I have learned to switch back and forth between two of them (play a song, swap picks, play another song, swap back) but if I were getting big boxes of them for free I would just toss one out after every song or two.

Re: Tortex Wedge

Is this a joke or what???

For some obscure reason or the other these "Stubby" picks arrived (today) before the "Big Stubby" picks (which were ordered first). As per my note above: I sure do hope the difference between a "Stubby" and a "Big Stubby" is the actual size of the picks!!! These pieces of sh*t are TINY. Who uses these things and for what??? One of those "Hello Kitty" guitars or what??? Man I am pis*ed!!! I HATE wasting money like this!!! Why doesn't Dunlop (and whoever else) have the specifications on their website i.e. not just the thickness but how about some proper measurements as well!!!

Here's a pic. of one of the (TWENTY FOUR) pieces of sh*t I now have side-by-side to my Dunlop Primetones. Believe it or not: for some reason or the other in the pic. they don't seem that small but please believe me when I say that they are more like false fingernails than guitar picks!!!

As I said earlier, I don’t like them either.
Yeh well. That I do remember. Also remember making light of it!!! LOL!!!

Now that I've semi-calmed down (it doesn't help that you have to wait over a week for the darn things to arrive either): really don't know why these pick manufacturers don't bother with proper dimensions (well Dunlop anyway). Amazon gives dimensions but they're not worth the screen space they take up i.e. in some cases it's the package size while in others it's the item size (so far as I can tell anyway).

Only decent thing about the "Stubby" is the point. The points on the Primetones are the same (for about an hour!!! LOL!!!) (the Primetone in the pic. has obviously been used for an hour or so!!! LOL!!!).

Oh well. Hoping the "BIG Stubby" is BIG(GER)!!! LOL!!!

Otherwise I may just be factoring in the cost of Primetones as an annual expense!!! When things like this happen then you start thinking "better the devil you know (and are happy with)" if you know what i mean.

Here's a better comparison pic. (shows just how much smaller they actually are):

P.S.

Suppose one solution is to just keep practicing and get famous. Then I can just throw Primetones out at the audience every other riff or solo!!!

Yngwie sure does seem to like having a fresh pick in hand at all times I’ll tell ya that for nothing.
