Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

magnum 44 EHX is same price at $150 but smaller and more wattage, not sure that it sounds better though, but it is well reviewed and seymour duncan forumite Necropolo uses it for big pro heavy metal shows and raves about it, RE: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...g&matchtype=&gclid=CKeJqpuFu78CFdBi7AodHmgAXw

You'd need to run a dirt box in front of a 44 Magnum to get any gain out of it. If you don't have one lying around already it could end up being more expensive than a Micro Terror. You would though get much more clean headroom and the ability to footswitch clean/dirty.

ya Ill prolly get the 44 in the next year or so, thanks

solid state headroom is important, cause they dont sound like cranked amps when they hit their max headroom ;)

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

Funny you should mention that. The power amp in the Micro Terror is designed to emulate a tube amp and actually gives some very warm and spongy breakup when cranked.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I did a quick price check on Google and the micros were 132 and up and the magnums started at 150. Lurlz

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I got a micro terror off craigslist for $100, still in box and had paperwork. It's pretty great, I can use it as a headphone jam station and it's loud enough for most stuff. My Randall cab with 2x12 & a 15 doesn't like it though, well the 15 doesn't.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

Hmm. I still haven't plugged mine into my Sunn 2x15. I'll have to try that tonight.

I'm still stoked about it. I have a pile of classic amps but I keep grabbing the little guy.

I should have one installed in a guitar and just run a speaker cable from that guitar to a cabinet.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I've had a Micro Terror for a while now that I keep in my gig bag as a backup amp at gigs.

I stand it ontop of my SLO or Splawn Quick Rod at gigs so I can quickly plug it in if anything goes wrong and carry on the gig.

Admittedly it doesn't sound as good as my main amp, but it's loud enough and sounds good enough to get me through so that's fine by me :D

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I use a Dual Terror at our rehearsal room and it can produce some great sounds but - the tone seems to fluctuate. At times the top end seems to disappear. When I say 'seems' it could be the behaviour of my battered old ear drums but I never notice anything like this with the Cornford I gig with. The guy that runs the place has got a deal with Orange and there's a load of the current range in different rooms. He says they break down a lot.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

The Micro is a bit of a different creature. There's probably more stability in it.

I gotta say, they should apply this design to the Crush series. Make a 100w Macro Terror. I'm already drooling over the dual dark 50w.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

They make a solid state rockerverb based thing, the CR120. Supposed to be pretty decent and only $450.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I've seen some clips of it and its far better sounding than it should be. The micro terror is more complicated than the tiny terror, which is a shame. The chip amp is pretty old school though; a class D amp would flatten cities.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I want one for around the house mostly and to keep as a backup at gigs.

I run a Dual Terror, loaded with JJ's. Got it very lightly used, great amp. I mostly use it at 7 watts for smaller gigs and rehearsals, but I'll run at 15 or 30 if I need more bottom. I run it thru a custom made 4x10 that looks like an Orange cab. Built like a brick haven't had a single issue with it I can think of, I love it.

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

I may just have to get one of these. I've been looking at something that will hit a little harder than my Picovalve for small room band practice. I figure I'd be able to push my Cannibis Rex just fine with it and use my TT Mayhem in front. Or my Keeley MT-2.

ola englund demoing the orange micro terror:

disclaimer: he can make anything sound good!!!

Re: Totally Impressed: Orange Micro Terror

This tiny lunchbox is the most exciting amp in the market for me these days. Some weeks ago one of these was parking in the studio and I ended up playing that for hours after the recording sessions. Running through a decent cab it's sweet like a puss.

You'd need to run a dirt box in front of a 44 Magnum to get any gain out of it. If you don't have one lying around already it could end up being more expensive than a Micro Terror. You would though get much more clean headroom and the ability to footswitch clean/dirty.

True, it is not as cost effective as the Micro Terror but it doesn't colour the sound so it is a better companion for preamps. The Orange soapbox is rather a standalone amp with its own voice. The Magnum works like an old power tube saturation master volume amp with no dirt gain stage, just like my old dirty love the Selmer T'n'B that I used as a power amp with various preamps. If you kick its mouth with a preamp it rips your pants off.

AMT preamps + 44Magnum through a G12T75 loaded superlight open-back cab:

It is the heart of my touring micro rig since 2011 when my spine gave in.

Yes that's a doormat. It was much lighter, compact and instant than a normal pedal board.
