I just can't seem to keep off of it....

I buy, sell off, trade.... seems like over 20 guitars in the past 3 or 4 years...

Just worked another trade 5 minutes ago, so I was just wondering how often you guys do it.

Poll included

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

Each of the past two years I did 2 buys and 2 sells each year. In my case, I was pursuing the "right" guitar for three different playing styles, namely acoustic, strat duties, and hard rock/metal. So the goal for me was to end up w three guitars dedicated to three different styles at the end of the day, vs. going through four guitars to end up with a single "right" one. Putting aside GAS as a possible temptation (how's that for tempting fate? Lol) , I believe I will not be buying and selling at this rate (actually, none at all) from here on out at least for the next year or two, as I feel I did end up with the "right" Guitars for those styles. So I should be all all set for a while.

I turned and burned much more in the way of pedals and pickups in the past two years, and I do see myself continuing to buy and try new pedals at a healthy rate going forward. That would be an interesting poll as well.

Of course, I do want to buy that ESP LTD South Of Heaven commemorative guitar each time I see it... oh, and the RIB one, too. .. God, give me strength! lol

None. I own every guitar and bass I've bought since '97.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I just keep buying them. I don't sell to often

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

It's kind of gotten to the point where I buy gear only if it's useful.

What's the point of blowing money on things I know I will probably sell? I'd never get the full value of it back anyway.

I've been looking at my gear as tools, not play things.

MM. There is a danger that you could turn into this forum's next "Cartman". Now, we wouldn't want that to happen, would we? ;)

This had to happen eventually. :D

I'd never get the full value of it back anyway.

After the VC CD sells a million copies, your autographed guitars will sell for vast sums of money on Craigslist.

I've been looking at my gear as tools not play things.

Try doing both. If you are not enjoying your instruments, why have any?

As for me, I fall into the same category as bluedave. Steadily acquiring more than I dispose of. (See Bassment NBD thread.)

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I've been buying guitars one a year, typically in the summer. 2010 was my first guitar, a Silvertone Revolver, 2011 was my PRS Torero, 2012 a Washburn HM, 2013 (and yet to have a proper NGD thread due to a lack of Black Winter,) is my PRS Billy Martin.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I've got a GAS problem and the forum helps feed that. I generally buy a few guitars a year, this year I've bought way more than I've ever bought in a year. BTW I seldom sell any and my collection is better for it. :)

The only time I saw a zombie cry, was when he was forced to sell one of his guitars. lulz

Depends what else happens to catch my eye, espescially if it's a good deal. Sometimes that's incentive to clear out a few old ones. It's a 'sifting' process.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I have 6 guitars now, of a total of 9 which I've bought in 15 years of playing.
I'm probably the slowest guy here when it comes to moving gear.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I've sold off a few this year....mainly as I never seemed to pull them out.

A lot of the sales have been 'intermediate' priced guitars, and the purchases later are always higher level.

I've done a pretty good merry-go-'round with pedals though.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I've purchased about 37 guitars in the past 6 or 7 years.

I've sold only 1! (a guitar that I only purchased for the pup. I switched the pup and then sold the guitar, ironically back to the person I originally bought it from).

I've traded none.

I like guitars.

I like to play guitars. I like to play lots of different guitars.

I like to own guitars.

I like to mod guitars.

I like to make guitars.

I like guitars.

We're about on the same page.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I'm in the 2-4/year category. Mainly because I buy the occasional guitar specifically to "flip" for a small profit. That's easy money, and in a college town it's sometimes easy to buy at bargain prices. May take awhile to turn them around, but I can almost always make $50-$100 per flip.

At around 30 axes, I'm not looking to add to the guitar stable, as I'm out of room to store them, even with keeping a few at the church.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I don't think I'd ever willingly part with a guitar I've purchased. I only buy one when it meets certain criteria of my own personal liking, meaning I feel some sort of attachment to it at first glance, and know I have a use for it. I thought about trading my ESP Horizon once, but I don't think I'd have actually gone through with it.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

I love guitars. That being said...I'm constantly on the Bay and C-list searching for Used Guitars (that way I never or rarely take a loss if I don't

end up gelling with it...Sh!t happens). I couldn't tell you the last guitar I've bought Brand New because you'll always take a loss if you ever

want/need to sell it. When buying Used I get to try out different guitar models from different Manufacturer's and the Previous owner got hit with the

depreciation, not me. Obviously when you buy a guitar online, pics are the only representation. You'll never know how it plays until its in your hands. If I

bond with it, I'll keep it. Other's I'll buy because the price was too good to pass up, so I'll flip it and make a profit. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the

possibility of finding an amazing Instrument, and parlaying that profit into more gear to try out. It's win/win as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Trading/buying/selling guitars... how often do you switch it up?

None, Never sold any of my Guitars, except for a crapy Combo, even that I gave away free.
