i have a traynor ycv 40 and have had it for over 2 years now. its undergone the out of town repairs now, and has undergone many changes, turns out, all the stuff yourkville was doing to reduce the hiss and make it warmer wasnt working..in the end, i decided there was one more thing i hadn't yet replaced, the power tubes. i had replaced them with the cheap sovtek ones that come stock, so i decided to put in a set of el34 groove tubes. HOLY CRAP. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! there is so much more oomph, and its 10 times warmer then ever. i love it, i highly recomend putting in el 34's, especially if you only have the single speaker model like myself. i found the 6L6's only sounded good in the 80 watt 4x12

I read somewhere recently that you can mod a YCV40 into a 50 by converting the presence knob to a master volume and changing a resistor to be able to run EL34's. I didn't think that 6l6's and EL34's were interchangable in these amps without modding. If it works ok, then I guess its fine, but you might want to double check with someone about whether your amp will be ok running those.

youd still be 10 watts short... and a cool blue tolex.. and brightness switch (i think) anyways, that would be pretty cool if you could for all those people that love el34's.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the pickups your using will make a difference. I'm using relatively lower output pups (Seth Lovers or stock single coils in my strat). I found that higher output pups didn't sound as good and got overcompressed but clean pups remained clear even with a lot of gain.

has anyone else noticed this? i was thinking of getting a JB in my bridge since re-routing the cavity only costs 35 dollars at some pro place near my house, but if it sounds crappy with the traynor i probably wouldnt. what would be a better replacement for EVH or that kind of stuff? i want versatility, so vintage in neck and something with more balls in bridge. the problem is most good bridge pickups are high output.
