Trem for my les paul

Re: Trem for my les paul

Alright, so it has become really clear now I guess. Aceman just made sense of a 60+ post thread with 1 post. This really isnt an investement grade guitar, and even if it was, it's worth more to me when it's being played than if I wanted to collect it. And anyways, it is indeed just a studio, so it doesn't really matter all that much in the end.

I guess what I will do is try out trem systems on other guitars, and install the one I like most, without thinking to much about mods. Worst comes to it, I'll save up some cash in the long run and buy a standard if I get bored of it.

Let me know how it turns out. I have been thinking about doing the same thing.

Re: Trem for my les paul

Just before I go and do this, I have a question. If I add a bigsby to my les paul, will it still fit in the original hardshell case?

That's a good question. I've never even thought of that before.

Re: Trem for my les paul

The gibson hardshell case?

I don't think so. Its pretty tight quarters in there.

Re: Trem for my les paul

yes I'm pretty sure it'll fit. The bigsby rolls back so that it lies almost flat (no higher than the bridge or original stoptail did) against the body. I've had no problems with my SG fitting in it's case since I added the bigsby

My concern here is that the bar might lie almost flat on the sg, but the sg is flat. The lp on the other hand is fitting pretti close to the case. I'm going to have to further investigate this matter. If anybody has a lp style guitar with a bigsby, let me know.

Re: Trem for my les paul

Why did you choose to go for a Bigsby? if you're ready to go for other brands go for a Khaler or a Stetsbar. Bigsbys hurt the intonation sometimes and they won't get you too many psychedelic trem effects.

Besides, the Stets and Kahler do less damage to the finish and work better... I wouldn't even consider a Bigsby.

Re: Trem for my les paul

why so much bigsby hatred? I just don't get it. I use mine all the time, do some pretty extensive work with it, almost never comes out of tune...it's just a great unit. I think a lot of people who have problems with them don't shell out the little bit of extra cash for the good one and get the cheap models (the B-50 vs. the B-5 for instance) and those are the ones they have problems with, much like floyd rose copies

Re: Trem for my les paul

I own a guitar with a Bigsby & a guitar with a Schaller Floyd... several no trem & strat trem rides too... They're all good & all have their place. The Bigsby is great for a little shake, especially on chords... nothing else is like it.

But for "real" trem work, bending notes a step or three and using it as a musical pitch bending tool... the Strat-style & locking trems are so much better it's not even funny.

Re: Trem for my les paul

well yeah, but he never said he was going for the crazy note bending stuff, just said he wanted a trem. I love my bigsby for the stuff I do. It's perfect. If I need to get crazier, I play a strat...if I need to get crazier, I'm screwed because I just can't do the floyd thing again, although I see them as great units.
