Tremolo system with compression springs?

I was thinking about the design of a guitar I've had in mind for a while now and how awesome it would be to install a Floyd Rose on it, but there wouldn't be any space below the pickups where I could rout the cavity for the counterbalance springs and I was thinking about if it had ever be done to somehow put compression springs that push the tremolo block, instead of extension springs that pull the block, on the opposite side, with the same cavity but mirrored.
P.D. I don't like the FRX and it is very expensive.

Re: Tremolo system with compression springs?

Fender Jaguar and Bronco vibratos use compression springs - not the answer you probably wanted, but they’re out there and front-route.

Fender Mustang, Freeflyte and System 2 / 3 vibratos are front-route; yet do not use compression springs.

You could always use a Bigsby.
