Trey Anastasio Of Phish

I know a large portion of his sound comes from his guitar being a hollowbody, but what pickups would pull me closest to his tone. SD or others. Thanks!

Re: Trey Anastasio Of Phish

From the last interview I read, he was using Schaller pickups called Super Golden 50s.

But that's been awhile back and he could have changed by now!

Re: Trey Anastasio Of Phish

In a GW interview, his pickups were stated as being custom-wound Seymour Duncan PAF-style. '59s would probably be a good cheaper alternative.

You should get a bazillion pedals, too :)

Re: Trey Anastasio Of Phish

Really any PAF style pickups. But the key to his tone is his old Ross Compressor, and now his Analogman Comprossor (just ordered one). Most compressors will probably get you close, but he uses a ton of compression. Also a Tube Screamer is part of his pedalboard.

Re: Trey Anastasio Of Phish

Trey's tone underwent a huge evolution throughout his career and continues to do so.
For the early stuff, a set of Seths will nail it IMO
Dunno about the current set up, but I do know that the late phish circa 2000 was a '59 and JB (farmhouse was recorded with this setup).
Most of his tone was also a result of the amp speaker.

I think he actually runs two tubescreamers, one into the other. I think they're modded by Analogman too, but I'm not sure.
