Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Dang he never told me that, either. Just the ugly one!!

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

The EBMM Morse Y2D that I had was 2nd to none in playability and fit/finish. Pickups were a little generic tonally, and the lack of forearm contour was an issue, but all in all I wouldn't mind having it back.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Back when the EVH model came out I tried a few. Was the first time I played any EBMM. Totally blew my mind. Wish I would've gotten one back then. Every one I've touched since then has had that same high quality to it. When a buddy of mine and I went to the Dallas Guitar Show this year, we stopped by their booth and I playing a few StingRay basses. Not a single dead note anywhere on the neck. Every note rang out as it should. The necks are incredible. I think if I was to get a 5-string, it would have to be a EBMM. Just crazy comfortable neck.

You wouldn't expect to be disappointed in an EB, would ya?!?

Not in the quality department. As for the lineup, I don't care for the JP or the Morse. Nice guitars but not my thing. I like the Silhouette, the Axis and the Cutlass in the guitar line. The Armada has that classic meets modern line going for it. I like the design. The StingRay bass is my favorite out of all the basses.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Their own trems are really great, but I'm a Floyd fan, also.

Have you looked at the JP16? Recessed Floyd and all the JP goodies, including great pickups and the original dished forearm cutout. Just wish it had the JP15's awesome piezo system.

My biggest complaint is the absolute lack of color options on the JP16...what the heck is up with that, Ernie Ball?

Yeah, I'm sure they are great, but I've been burnt on getting non-OFRs (including some very high-end contraptions) enough times that I am just not going there, unless I have the opportunity to make sure that it is rock solid over an extended period of time. The JP16 looks great, and I really have to try one at some point. The extremely flat fretboard isn't my thing, but I really like so many of the things EB are doing in general. Regarding colours, as Mincer said, I think they mix them up annually.

Silhouette arrived yesterday...first impression, right out of the case...there have been no exaggerations about what a fine instrument it is...

Hah! That's awesome to read, knowing that I have a share of responsibility in your purchase.

Congratulations! I'll be expecting a more complete review. :)

I am happy it turned out well. Used EBs are a gret find- it is just that many people hold on to the ones they have, so you don't see a ton of them used.

When you go back, try a St. Vincent. We're all dying to know.

Sorry, a bit late to the party, but even Sterling by EBMM has some great quality products. I have a Sub AX4 and it is a phenomenal little Wolfgang copy at a reasonable price.

Given that the Wolfgang was based off the EVH/Axis, which is the direct source of the AX4, it's rather the Wolfgang that's a copy of the Axis :P

Keith Richards said that the Ernie Ball/Music Man Silhouette guitar "has the opportunity to become like the Stratocaster or Telecaster or Les Paul, one of the classic electric guitars."
