Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Well in a few weeks time an Ernie Ball Music Man JPXI BFR 6 in Onyx will be arriving at my home.

See what such positive threads do?

Cannot wait to get ahold of it!

Trailer cute, I love it... just add some mascara runs and she's pure sex

Wth is that trem though? Never seen one of those

Contacted MM @SLO with a pic... The guitar is evidently older than I thought...they got back to me quickly and said " It is a Schaller tremolo. We stopped using that tremolo in 1991"...they are trying to see if they can find me some replacement fine tuners....seems to have a best in class customer service group...

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

Happy ending...customer service found one back in the weeds but in new condition and sending out tomorrow....since it was an early Shaller the CS guy for "****s and giggles" asked for the SN...not in the database....had to go back to the book records and found that it is an early '88...not many made at that point...guy said it is the same guitar that Keith Richards got except he asked for a hardtail...I'm jazzed and extremely impressed with not only Ernie Ball guitar but with a customer service group that would go on a hunt and find a 30 year old bridge for me.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

That's friggin' awesome!

Definitely a surprising find and great to see the company standing behind their products 30 years later...WOW!

They sent you a complete bridge?

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

had the '88 Silhouette fer 'bout a week now...only guitar have been playing and getting a few hours a day in...so maybe time for a little review:

playability...people here have commented very favorably about this aspect...then there is this:
"I sent one to Keith Richards. It's a long story....but out of the blue I get a phone call at home mid 1986. "Hello, Sterling? This is Keef." I said "who" He said "Keef Richards" "I got your guitar, its like a fine woman..lets go"

The next thing I knew we got a telex (before fax and email) for an order for 10,000 guitars from Japan. That was the good news. The bad news is that we were making about 4 guitars and basses a day."

what can I add except my agreement to the consensus that the Silhouette is the best playing guitar have ever held in my hands...

the tone...rate it just as high in this category....except that we all know that different axes have different strengths/applications...the Silhouette HSS here is a more refined, balanced tone machine than my USA HSS Strat...all three pickups have equal output vs. the Strat with an afterburner H...like the H on the EB MM, it has a more Tele like sparkling highs but with full bass and midrange as well...the kicker is the middle S...rarely use it on my Strat but on the EB MM it located closer to the neck...think this is why it has it different characteristics...it has a sort of acoustic guitar quality to it so it is a very useful PU all on it's own...what is lost is the EB MM position 2 really doesn't do the quack...which is no loss for me...the neck is neck PU is neck and neck with the Strat...

that's it folks...it's a world class player and a tone machine of a different color and the color is excellent...

Once again I would like to thank everyone who pointed me on the path to buy this guitar...it is a winner...so I am a winner on this purchase...

Man what a bummer, heard from Sweetwater and my JP X1 will not be arriving until approximately April of 2019!!!!!!

I figured they would have a lot pull since they are so big but that was the ETA they received from Ernie Ball.

Long way off.

Wow, I wonder if that is real? That is a ridiculous estimate from any company.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

I posted a question on the EB MM forum about the long lead time....see what comes of it...on thing I can tell you is that their customer service is the best...maybe you should check with them and see what the deal is.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

I did send them a communication through their website asking about it. I will see what they say.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

The word from the EBMM forum is: "EBMM is build to order. Hence the wait."....

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

I was under the impression that they do 'runs' of specific models. Still, waiting that long gives you a lot of time to browse other companys' wares.

Re: Tried a couple of Ernie Balls today... Wow!

They actually build ALL guitars to order, from dealers. When a dealer runs out, they order another batch and, yep, it can take a while :( It's a much lower-volume company than, say, Fender, PRS etc...

The yearly PDN runs, and the smaller monthly runs that started this year, all follow the same process although I'm not sure just any dealer can request those.
