tried the dimebucker, need more power

I don't see the specs for the dimebucker, but i have to assume its not one of sd's most powerful pickups. Is there a pickup i should try that has the same bright brilliance of the Dimebucker, but has more balls?

Need more power? WHY????? :smack: :laugh2:

Sorry...but if you need more power than a Dimebucker get a JB and a Duncan Pickup Booster or something.

i would assume the JB as it has more output than my ceramic custom.
lots a brilliance

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

It's very hot at 16.25k Maybe it's too low and you need to raise it? I had that pup in an Ibanez and it screams! The PATB-2 Distortion Trembucker is hottest at 21k

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

I've tried the 81's. they have a nice loud sound, but the term "processed" comes to mind before brilliance though.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

Get an EMG 85, technically it has more power than the 81...it's just not as loud sounding because of the different EQ. But, If you need a flatter EQ or just a more cutting tone for solos go with the 81. If you need even more power get an EMG AB Afterburner. I don't know what the hell youd be slamming with this much output but to each his own.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

The reason i say more power is that when i compare it to a dimarzio tone zone it doesn't sound as full. It sounds better in the highs and lows, the dimarzio seems to have more kick, presence, harmonic ability, and more power.

yeah maybe an 85, always thought that was a neck pickup though.
You can use almost any EMG Humbucker wherever you want. The 89 is one exception to my knowledge, although one can order the two pickups switched IIRC.

If you think you need more output than a dimebucker you are doing something wrong.
Yeah, the Dime is hot, but anybody with an Invader, Distortion, X2N, EMG 81 or 85, DiMarzio Evo, etc... is using something hotter.

It's billed as being just hellacious, but really isn't what you'd expect.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

Just looked into the 85. This would be a 2 pickup commitment, because emg's require 25k pots which if you put a passive neck pickup through would greatly reduce gain and high-end. If i was willing to drill another hole i could put a power booster on the passive, but its tight enough trying to find room for a battery...
Anyone know of any good passive pickups that sound like the dimebucker with more balls? need more sustain, attack and presence..

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

Have you tried the Invader. As bassy as it is, its still very clear and tight.

If you're feeling up to it you could go EMG, use their PA-2 mounted into one of the tiny mini switch holes and use an external battery source. Then you could keep your passive, match the passives output to the EMG (if that's what you want) and not have to worry about the space the battery would take up.

Maybe a Duncan Custom? A little less output, a little bigger tone...might work for 'ya.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

The TZ sound bigger probably cause it's full of mids and bass as the Dime is slighly mid-scooped .
Try a distortion or an X2N
