tried the dimebucker, need more power

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

If you're needing something with a different EQ than the Dimebucker, then saying you want something with more power is not necessarily it. More power does not mean better sounding all the time.

From yours posts in this thread, it sounds like you want something with more kick, presence, harmonic ability. Let's leave the power out of it.

Let's start at the other end of the chain first though. What amp are you using? What's the settings? What pedals do you have in the chain? What guitar is this in? All that stuff has an effect.

Right off the bat, yes, the TZ has more lows and mids to it. The only thing that the TZ and Dimebucker share is they are both hot pickups. Other than that, they're totally different animals.

One of the best sounding pickups that I've ever played that has kick, presence and good harmonic ability is a low output PAF. And it has plenty of power.

85 maybe?

The 85 sounds even more "processed" than the 81 because of its EQ. Its a very very flat EQ buzzy pickup.

I vote for a JB.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

Thanks erikh, i am running my guitar into a digitech gnx4 processor. When i flip through all the patches with the dimebucker, a few sound spectacular, but many reveal a missing depth with this pickup. I am not sure how to describe it. I would say missing presence, kick, depth, harmonic ability, and power. It basically sounds like i turned the volume and tone knobs down to "2" on the guitar. Whereas the tonezone still kicks it on these patches, but its not quite as tight or bright as the dimebucker. I am looking for something that has the best of both these pickups.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

And are you running the GNX4 in to an amp?
Isn't the GNX4 some sort of modeller?
Modellers are nice and all but I think they hide the true character of how a pickup will behave. I bet if you took your guitar down to a local shop and plugged it in to a Marshall, Mesa, or any other amp that it would behave completely different.
Don't forget, with modellers, you need to tweak the suckers like mad to get them to work with the guitar. A friend of mine has a POD XT Live and he has to tweak the living daylights out of it for each of his guitars.

I played a Parallel Axis Distortion the other night and you want to talk about HARMONICS!!! Wow I am not normally a High Output fan, but I'll be getting one of those.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

My friend has the digitech and complained to me about how it doesn't have much gain and sounds lifeless. That's your problem, not the dimebucker.

Re: tried the dimebucker, need more power

Just for fun, i bet i can match any guitar tone you post :fingersx:
