Tried the EVH Frankenstein replica today.

Re: Tried the EVH Frankenstein replica today.

Apart from starting Charvel Mfg, thereby inventing teh aftermarket parts, Parts guitars and custom brass hardware industries.... I dunno :laugh2::beerchug:

If you mean in that specific guitar: I really don´t know, again I´ve personally never really cared for EVH. Though IIRC he did actually sell them to him, but Again, that´s not my area of experience ;)

Re: Tried the EVH Frankenstein replica today.

after looking at the front cover of the new GW mag and a few other mags i have around, and looking at other old 80's mags that have up close shots of Ed's original frankie there is lots of differences in the paint patterns... in 1983 there is some slightly different wear patterns then on the replica... Makes me wonder if ED ever touched up some of the paint and why? the rest of it looks well worn.. some of the tape patterns are close, some look thicker and some look slightly thinner...

and the old Frankie has a rounded neck pocket and the new reissue has the tele like square neck pocket...

I think i'll now say it's as close as one may get but it sure is not a 100% carbon copy

Ive heard this before and find it EXTREMELY intriguing. The man is heralded as a guitar building genius, but never made a body or neck until what?? The kickoff of the recent Wayne co??

MikeM,
Im suprised the shop even let you touch it.. I figured these things would be under lock and key any where that has them.

My local GC wouldnt let me play a Blackie replica. And Im middle aged ,mature etc.. They wont even get any 5150 IIIs in cuz they dont want to have anyone playing them.. Special order only..

Turned out that the store owner had the guitar out showing it to another customer. I've been going to that store for years and have brought him some additional business by recommending him to others. While we're not "friends" per say I know him and he knows me pretty well and knows what kind of person I am so he had no problem letting me play it.
