In my search to discover a clear objective for my planned warmoth project I went down to the Long & McQuade in Winnipeg today. I've also been thinking of the shipping and duty charges lately to come to the conclusion that I'll only do a warmoth project now if I don't find something that really speaks to me at a store here. Here's what happened...
For whatever reason this store seems to be getting a lot of the Gibson of the Week Guitars, I've seen 8 of the 15 so far in that store, and I really don't go that often. Anyways, today I played the SG Standard with 3 single coils, and I must say that for a guitar priced over a hundred LESS than a regular SG Standard, this thing was great. The finish was good, thin but not as thin as the faded series. When I plugged it in I was really surprised at how good those Gibson single coils were. The pickups were pretty freakin' hot, but in the end the crazy 6 way rotary switch was too complicated for me so I moved on.
What is everyone's thoughts on the Gibson of the Week Guitars they've played? Is it common for such a small market as this to be getting so many of these guitars here?
After raggin on the tele players here for awhile I finally played a tele that not only did I like but I almost instantly fell in love with. Its an American standard, not sure of whether it was alder or ash, but it was really light which is what I'm looking for as I have found that rarely are heavy guitars as resonant as lighter ones. I ended up playing almost every other tele in the store and nothing came close to it, so I'm going to be putting the warmoth planning on hold for awhile to spend some time at the store playing that guitar in case I buy it. I'm also going to try some G&Ls soon, and then post back. This thread was more of a random compilation of stuff that happened today. So how was your day? :nana:
