Trip to the Guitar Store (Gibson of the Week Content)

In my search to discover a clear objective for my planned warmoth project I went down to the Long & McQuade in Winnipeg today. I've also been thinking of the shipping and duty charges lately to come to the conclusion that I'll only do a warmoth project now if I don't find something that really speaks to me at a store here. Here's what happened...

For whatever reason this store seems to be getting a lot of the Gibson of the Week Guitars, I've seen 8 of the 15 so far in that store, and I really don't go that often. Anyways, today I played the SG Standard with 3 single coils, and I must say that for a guitar priced over a hundred LESS than a regular SG Standard, this thing was great. The finish was good, thin but not as thin as the faded series. When I plugged it in I was really surprised at how good those Gibson single coils were. The pickups were pretty freakin' hot, but in the end the crazy 6 way rotary switch was too complicated for me so I moved on.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Gibson of the Week Guitars they've played? Is it common for such a small market as this to be getting so many of these guitars here?

After raggin on the tele players here for awhile I finally played a tele that not only did I like but I almost instantly fell in love with. Its an American standard, not sure of whether it was alder or ash, but it was really light which is what I'm looking for as I have found that rarely are heavy guitars as resonant as lighter ones. I ended up playing almost every other tele in the store and nothing came close to it, so I'm going to be putting the warmoth planning on hold for awhile to spend some time at the store playing that guitar in case I buy it. I'm also going to try some G&Ls soon, and then post back. This thread was more of a random compilation of stuff that happened today. So how was your day? :nana:

Re: Trip to the Guitar Store (Gibson of the Week Content)

I haven't played any, but I know a guy with the 3-pup SG and for $950, I AM GETTING ONE.

400 of those, and 400 more of them in a different color later in July... there's enough for me to have enough time to get money to buy one.

How did you find out that there will be more in another colour in July?

What kind of singles, P90's or those Melody Maker style pu's?

Neither. Closer to a Strat, but AFAIK they're wound to cancel out the hum.

Also, $h!t, they ran out of the one I want. Damn ****ing Gibson. They make great stuff, but so hard to get your hands on it sometimes I want to be exclusive to Fender.

The singles in the SG have rails. The rails are skinny, and they stick pretty far out the top of the pickup.

The link showing all those guitars of the week is so hard to look at, although I've been dieing to see them I've enjoyed seeing a new one every week.

Yep. FQMS is out of the one I want now, and checked Music123, so are they. MusiciansFriend still has them, along with GC.com and... Musician.com, too. Of course, they're owned by GC too.

I'm going to get one of those it it's the last thing I do.

The "Fireburst" version of the SG3 that you posted is godly. Maybe I can round up enough cash by July....

$950 ain't bad. I'm either getting that or the natural one. Preferably natural...
