Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

OP, check your PMs. We'd love a chance to resolve this.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

They do not appear to be the arched ones. On the arched ones, the bridge is much taller than the neck, just like a Les Paul. In the photo, it looks like these two rings are the same height. (Sorry Jolly/Shooter/Johnny)

The warpage is exactly that. They either came out of the mold that way (as in they were still cooling down) or they saw excessive heat before you received them maybe?

But yes you've chosen to install them "upside down" vs the way they were intended. That means the switches will seem to work toward opposite coils vs. the way the wiring diagram suggests.

Frank, have you ever made triple shots rings out of maple or any other timber?

I was gonna ask for a photo of the rings from the sides. That should eliminate any guessing.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I've seen warped rings before and it's more often than not the case of misaligned holes. Even a slight misalignment of 1mm can cause this problem to occur.

Exactly, and they are the flat versions so no issues with height or L/R alignment
I actually prefer the switches on the bottom as they are in the same "hemisphere"
as the other controls, it's just a case of flipping a couple of wires to match the orientation
of the coils to match the switch positions.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I purchased two sets when they first came out and they still work fine.

However, i agree that the plastic is weak and easily bent!

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I will use them, but like I said, once you install a pickup with them, keep the pickup and the ring together. That and maybe a touch of hot glue at the wire junctions.

That hot glue suggestion is a great idea!! I don't know why I never thought of that (being the McGuyver type that I am). (I agree that the flimsy wire connection is the weakest point of the TS).

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

Frank is right, they ARE the same height (just look at the shadows).

I've been using TS rings since they first came out, and have them on at least 10 guitars. ANY warpage that I have personally seen has been due to misalignment of screw holes. I have never seen one warped before installation.

It doesn't take much of a misalignment of the screw holes (certainly Not as much as 1 mm as Orpheo said...he was being kind) to cause the warping problem...even 1/4 mm off will give those results. Expecially if the existing holes in the guitar are not perfectly square (a slight parallelogram or trapezoid pattern) or even if the holes seem to line up but are drilled at a slight angle, either or both of which could very well be the case in "a cheap/budget guitar".

I would suggest taking out 3 of the screws and slightly unscrewing the 4th to let the TS "relax". I would bet that there is (at least) one screw that doesn't perfectly line up. Fill and redrill that hole(s) and you should be fine.

This is my first thought too, since it happened to me, and this was the problem. However, we have also offered to make it right for the OP if he comes back.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

Here in the UK ,the general feeling among my largish group of guitar modders is that the triple shot is a great idea but possibly overpriced as design and construction is not in keeping with the usual Seymour Duncan high standards. Super glue repairs are not uncommon. Also some have deliberately set the rings upside down with the controls on the high strings side . It is claimed that this lessens the chance of hitting the wrong switch during enthusiastic strumming.

Also changing a setting mid song is easier with a push pull.

As far as I am aware no one who has tried them has been chomping at the bit to fit another set on another of their guitars. Nevertheless the TS does appear to still be selling well as suppliers sometimes show them as temporary out of stock.

Felt it worth while to chime in with a bit more feedback.

Please, give any reference, site, forum, etc.

I'd be interested in make some new british guitar modders and tweakers acquaintances. ;)

PM me if you so wish.

Yours very truly,
