Triple Shot Help!

Hi there, I've just bought a 2001 PRS Singlecut and would like to use Triple Shots to get more sounds! However, I'm not sure if I should get the flat or archtop Triple Shot versions, as on the PRS the existing pickup rings seem shorter than LP ones and the carve isn't as pronounced as a LP.

Here is the completed listing of the guitar with pictures from several angles:

What do you guys think would be the best Triple Shot version to buy?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Triple Shot Help!

I own a PRS SE Singlecut and I can tell you that the mounting rings are actually flat. The carved top on it is really more like a beveled edge, and is totally flat in the center.

The hardtail version has angled mounting rings, the trem version has flat rings. Either way, you want the flat Triple Shots.

You can see what I'm talking about in the fifth picture in the listing you posted.

Re: Triple Shot Help!

Yeah I made the mistake of getting the LP triple shots for my schecter, there is an arch gap between the ring and the body, you'll want the flat ones. Are you putting in P-Rails? If not you may want to reconsider triple shots and just go with push/pull knobs. That is such a beautiful guitar and the triple shot creme rings with the little black switches on them don't look nearly as natural on the guitar. Click on my name and view my profile to see a picture of my schecter and that will give you a good idea what to expect cosmetically.

Edit: actually you can't really see it clearly in that picture, I'll attach one

Brilliant, thanks guys. It has given me food for thought on whether or not to use the Triple Shots or push/pulls though!

Re: Triple Shot Help!

If I had an expensive USA made guitar with aged nickel hardware, I just couldn't bring myself to put the triple shots on it. The original pickup rings are part of the overall design and I wouldn't want to change that.

The main reason I use them is because I just like new toys and my guitars are all cheap and modern. Sometimes I'll buy used pickups with almost no lead on them for really cheap and then use the triple shots to make them work. I hate to discourage you from getting triple shots because, functionally, they are incredible, but with a prize guitar like that I'd be more concerned about the cosmetics.

Re: Triple Shot Help!

I love the Triple Shots. They work great and you can't really tell that they are any different from standard rings. Cosmetically, they are very nice. I think that they are much easier to use than push-pulls, plus you can visually tell where they are set. Can't always see with a push-pull.

You definitely need the flat ones, however.
