Triple Shot mounting rings

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Oh noes! Browsing to Wymore's site to see if the backordered status had changed (got a pre-ordered ring I'm waiting for), there's now the following info (caps theirs, not mine :) ):

PRODUCT RECALLED BY FACTORY, WILL ADVISE WHEN AVAILABLE

Hopefully these issues are easy/quick for SD to resolve & they'll be available soon? Any inside info? :)

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Yeah the manufacturer had wrong data and part number on the mini switches. They need to be DPDT, and the ones they sent were SPDT. Luckily we caught it in time, only a few went out. So now we have to wait for the right switches and get on to the next batch! The switch manufacturer admits the error. We've been killing ourselves around here, investigating, getting things sorted out, etc. Oh well, you can't kill yourself over something a vendor did wrong. I'll keep feeding you updates as I have them.

As for it being comedy? Well not really. Maybe in about a year we'll all look back and laugh, but right now there's a lot of guys waiting for their Triple Shots! In fact, any of you who are mad that you can't get your Triple Shots just yet, you can go over to DrNewcenstein's house and tell him how "funny" you think it is! :laugh2:

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Bummer for sure, I had shipped out 12 sets before the error was discovered but on the bright side it was caught early on and not a lot of parts left the factory. Hopefully the new stuff gets here soon!!

I feel for ya Frank ...

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

So, does this mean that we who are waiting on the LP style will have to wait on the flat top style to be fixed and shipped, then wait for the LP style to ship?

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

So is there an ETA for the rings?

One week? One month?

Just asking in case I want to go ahead and get my P-Rails and then wait for the triple shot to complete my project.

No, the wait will be the same for each style ring. They'll all get here at the same time.

Don't know yet, still waiting to hear from the switch manufacturer, and waiting to hear how much we can accelerate this. The slowest, worst case scenario seems to be a month. Will update as I know.

Hey the good news is that the next batch was going to include Creams. So now, Cream and Black will probably be available at the same time!

Sure thing. I'll roll out the red carpet for anyone that wants to stop by. Mind the moat.

So, the switch being SPDT instead of DPDT would cause what problem, exactly? I understand DPDT is needed for certain wiring schemes, but are they still useable as-is if all I want is full/split or some other basic switching?
If so, I'll keep the ones I've got and order the others when they're shipped.

No the PCB is specifically routed for DPDT switches, and there are a few reasons for that. The SPDT's that are in there still have 6 lugs, but they are bridged, which combines signals in all sorts of wrong places.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Hmmm. I might be able to work with them even still. I'll keep them and see what I can cook up

For the layman
You have to use a DPDT for humbuckers in series / coil-cut / parallel. This is the only way you can get all 3 options in one switch.

a simple switch is SPST, single-pole, single-throw ie On/OFF
SPDT, single-pole, double-throw- connecting either of two terminals to the common terminal
DPDT -Double pole, double throw -Equivalent to two SPDT switches controlled by a single mechanism:

You can see where you might be missing some tones and maybe even the ability for switching the polarity if you used SPDT

I lifted this off Wiki and another site.

Hmmm. I ordered 2 sets (4 rings), so I'll send one set back and keep the other to fart around with. On/Off can be useful, and the rings don't have to be the sole switching system for me. Might even wire one as a kill for the knobless WarAngel

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I really feel f*cked up about the delay, but ey, nothing can be done about it.

I do wish to know what kind of switching schematics are available. one slider for coiltap, one for in/out of phase?

That is good news! I've been hoping that creme LP style would be available by the end of May (bday present w/ P Rails) and I'll take that as confirmation!

I'll probably order from Wymore but I wonder does anyone else have these up for preorder? Musicians' Friend and ebay don't even come up with results. As much as I like a secret weapon I hope these get ordered enough to sustain production.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

just bumping this up.maybe there's some info or details about the triple shots?

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Yeah... Any idea when the new black ones will be shipping out? I feel like my guitar is only 50% of it's full self. :|

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

We've bought all the available switches off the market, and they're making more as fast as they can. E-switch is doing a production run specially for us so that the next batch AFTER the first replacement batch is completed as soon as possible also. I'll let you know when I have a due date.
