Triple Shot mounting rings

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Yeah... Any idea when the new black ones will be shipping out? I feel like my guitar is only 50% of it's full self. :|

great, I'm not the only one who feels that way :naughty:

@frank: nice to hear :) great! :D

I'm building a new warmoth les paul, and I really hope to see the new batch going out before the build is done :P so i can order them just before warmoth is done luthering, and I can assemble the entire thing all at once.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

before I forget to ask it: when will the wiring schematics for the triple shots go online? So i can see what wiring possibilities there are :P

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

While you are all waiting, some more close up pictures of the rings to ponder.

You can hook Red up to R, Green up to G, Black to B, White to W and Ground to Gnd.. this is they way they were designed to be used, and this way will give you the 4 possible tonal options available from the ring.

Seeing as the circuit isn´t exactly rocket science and can be reverse engineered simply by looking at the PC boards for 30 seconds, I think you´d be hard pressed to get anything more out of it... Unless you were to forego one or more options to turn it into an unnecessarily elaborate and complicated phase switch, or if you were to add further components to the circuit.

But seriously: Series, parallel, and each coil split by itself... when one considers that that´s just about the limit of the usable and technically viable options on a 2 coil , 4 wire pickup, It makes me wonder what insane and probably catastrophic plans some may be hacking up...

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I was actually kinda hoping that it would be possible to use 1 triple shot to have a coiltap for 2 pickups. put it another way: slider 1=coiltap bridge, slider2=coiltap neck :) but I gues that aint possible.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

^^ Would probably be impractical becasue the TS only has one output line (hot + ground), anyd you´d have to hook up the neck pu in teh Bridge rout or vice versa AND run a line back to the controls... but it´s not necessarily impossible..

As far as the switches go it should work, but you may well have to remove the rest of the guts to get it to work...

crap, forgot that little fact :P

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

So then, the TS comes with prewired lead to connect the PC board to the volume pot? If that is the case, SWEET!

I am putting these in a guitar larger than a LP, using a RS Modern Upgrade Kit and I was afraid I wouldn't have enough lead to connect both PC boards to the volume pots AND make the connections to the switch.

John, thanks for posting the pictures!

yeah, they have their own lead towards the pot, no biggy what soever. saw it on other pics.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Hey the good news is that the next batch was going to include Creams. So now, Cream and Black will probably be available at the same time!

Perfect!! I was waiting for the creme ones!! These things are a great idea!!!

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I've tried to install mine (the "wrong" ones) and using a pickup with a full-length lead won't work unless you've got a very deep pickup cavity, or one that's overly wide on the sides, as wrapping the leads around the legs won't allow the pickup into the hole.

Some cutting will be necessary.

However, Zerb mentioned something about hair-brained schemes? I'd say disconnect the ribbon-style lead from the ring and extend it so the smaller board can go in the control cavity.

That is, unless you expect to either keep forever, take a massive resale loss, or include the ring when/if you sell/trade the pickup.

Granted that's not the scenario these were designed around, but it is within the realm of possibility.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Been a couple of weeks since we've heard anything, so I'll ask the question: any new information on an ETA? Thanks.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I talked with SD today. Looks like we are still at least a couple weeks away. Creams to follow after but nothing firm yet on exactly how long. They are still waiting to approve the color match on the cream.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Wymore now lists the cremes as 5/30. I have a big gig on the 23rd and really wnated to premiere the new pickups there. That one week makes all the difference. Oh, well. :34:

Yes, I revised my dates based on talking with SD yesterday. The original date was based mostly on information posted here but was probably optimistic in hindsight. I guess basically, I'll ship them when I have them!!

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Good to know. With my timeline I'm going to have to go push/pulls, sadly.

On the brighter note, I ordered a set of P-Rails from Wymore Friday night and here they are Monday morning! Come on! That service is way too good. How am I supposed to order anything from anyone else?

I think that's the idea! ;)
