Triple Shot mounting rings

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Good to know. With my timeline I'm going to have to go push/pulls, sadly.

On the brighter note, I ordered a set of P-Rails from Wymore Friday night and here they are Monday morning! Come on! That service is way too good. How am I supposed to order anything from anyone else?

Who said you´re supposed to order anything (that he carries) from anywhere else? Apparently a few spankings are in order.. :laugh2::beerchug:

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

This sounds like a great product. I want to add p-rails to my Ibanez AS93.
(a 335 copy)
Question--- Does this mean that I can have one pickup in the rail mode and the other pickup in the P90 mode and then have then combined whenthe regular 3 way selector is in the middle ?? The push-pull wiring on SD's site would not allow this.

Or-- neck pu in series humbucker and bridge pu in parallel humbucker ?

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I don't see why it can't be done with push-pulls. Maybe not with just one, but 2 should certainly allow it. Assuming I'm reading you correctly (i.e. bridge Rail, neck P90, bridge rail+neck P90 when 3 way is in the middle).

You'd need 2 rings to do it, just as you'd need 2 push-pulls, because they give the same options as push-pulls - standard series, parallel with itself, inner coil off, outer coil off (choosy splits).

Yes, dpdt push/pull pots should be able to do the same thing. There is a wiring diag. on SD's site that has 2 push/pulls but the circuit does both pu's the same. (both rail, both p90 and so on)
I would plan on using two triple shot mntg rings.
plus-- I still havent figured out how to take out the existing pots and change them for push/pulls. Looks like all the electronics would have to come out, be rewired and pots changed then put back. Those 2 tone controls are a long way from the "f" hole openings. Must be a way to do it, but I have no experience with semi hollow work. (I did do all my Strat copy wiring myself, that had easy access) Maybe some special tools to insert and hold the parts while the nuts were put on the pots. The triple shots look MUCH easier to manage.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I think Jackson used a bent piece of metal coat-hanger or those Easter Egg Dying loops to get the controls in their Jazz'R. They had pics of them being installed on the site before the Fender buyout, and that's what it looked like to me.

Maybe a telescoping magnetic tool?

I suppose you could tie a string to the post so that when you took the pots out, if you tie the string around the post of the new pot (if you're changing them), then you can pull the knob right back to the hole.

As for the wiring of the push-pulls, you don't have to follow the diagram they have for the P-Rails. Pick another type of pickup whose switching options you want and use that diagram, transposing "rail" and "P90" for whatever options are shown (split, phase, etc).

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Yes, I revised my dates based on talking with SD yesterday. The original date was based mostly on information posted here but was probably optimistic in hindsight. I guess basically, I'll ship them when I have them!!

How many sets of the creme arched rings do you think you'll be getting in?

I've been dying for these so I can place an order of creme P-Rails to go with them.

I have 6 sets of arch top and 4 sets flat on order. I will probably up that though based on interest. I think I have pre-orders for that many now.

You were smart to do that, I couldn't find them anywhere, I'm glad I ordered them ... now if the DPDT switches would just come in !

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I need 3 rings aswell, but wont do it until I know when to expect them.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Inquiring minds want to know - what's the dilly-o?

Guys, I have no new information as of today. I tried to get through to Duncan Customer Service Friday and this morning but am just getting answering machines.

Frank, if you are still following this thread could you post the latest information please. I know you are somewhat at the mercy of your supplier but any updated news would be great.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Okay, I couldn't wait any longer. I built a wiring harness using the RS Guitar Modern Upgrade kit and installed the P-Rails, P-90 coil only, in my Gibson HRF. I have to say I don't care if the other three coil options turn out to be dismal, P-90s in this are absolutely fabulous!

But still, I'd like to hear the other coil options whenever the Triple Shots are available (I'm NOT looking forward to playing Operation and fishing the harness back out of this thing to wire up the TSs!).
