Triple Shot mounting rings

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Any updates? I have one poor P-Rail sitting on my desk waiting for its companion and a set of Triple Shot's to go in... ;)

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

I hgave a couple questions for those who have had them in their hands or are ordering them

do I understand correctly they come in an arch and flat top design?

Do they also come in a short and tall version so you can do both pups, neck and bridge? I've already seen the subtle differences from the advertised prototrype and the real thing in pics, just wondering what the range of fitment is.

That little melt-rivet design looks pretty fragile, and micros on little pcbs are by nature. Does it sit well enough against the face of the guitar to help support it over years of use? Might this be insured against with a little tape and forethought when you install it? Or is heavy use going to be a risk, and if it does break is it going to be pretty much useless and eventually fail at the ribbon or somewhere?

Thanks to all of those who are sharing, I see some possibilities that I am considering. Not sure if I want this yet.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Any updates? This is what my triple shot will be going in:

It's a recent Gibson white Melody Maker reissue. The Triple Shot is the only part that's missing...

:dot:

I dd all the routing (ack! but it went ok...), and had to test fit everything unsoldered & snap some pics. No idea what the P-Rails sounds like in here yet, as I wanted to solder it once. Also, the high E looks a little off it's pole piece - the angled bridge/tailpiece seems to force that string farther away from the others, and probably needs to be replaced (if anyone has any recommendations...)

so...

any news?

anyone?

:^)

The rings are flexible enough to cover most arched bodies. Frank from SD said there's far too many different archtop radii for them to pick one and go with it, so they made them flexible enough to bend.

They do (will) come in tall and short.

I've got the shorts (with the bunk switches), and they fit just fine. No worries about the board popping off.

The ribbon of the one I've been working with did break loose from the small board, though.

It's an easy enough fix for me (strip the wires a hair and resolder them).

I removed the melted washers and the board needed to be pryed off the little mounting sticks. It goes back on an stays on well enough.

A strip or two of electrical tape under the board should hold it in place once it's mounted on the guitar.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Thanks DocN, that is what I needed to hear!

I took a closer look at mine and yep, it sure looks like they were flexed a little also. So with a little material removal and a little flexing they should be alright.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

They're here and being tested and packed. I don't know what day they'll ship out but it's all happening right now at maximum speed.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

The first batch of black is entirely sold out. The second batch is on the way, those are black, too, since we were sold out. Then right after that is cream. We looked at cream samples the other day, too. Seymour had some suggestions about the color. Before we approve the creams we'll have to see the final sample, then the creams will be on the way. At this point it looks like creams are maybe a month away.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Frank, thanks so much for the update. I'm sure you've been just as anxious as those of us with orders, probably more so. This is great news!

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Nice.

I was hoping to have my replacement switches in before these were ready, but the place I ordered from is in Canada, and they sent it Molasses Mail for $12. It's been 2 weeks, and could be 2 more weeks :(

Nice of the site to have a .com address instead of a .ca so I'da known before I committed - I coulda bought them from a place in the States and had them by now and could have been enjoying my Triple Shots while everyone else was still waiting, but noooooooo..... **** Canuckistanians

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Well have YOU ever tried using a dog sled in June? It takes a lot of time to line up the ice cubes in front of the runners; you're lucky they're willing to ship at all!

I myself can't wait to throw these + some P-Rails in my LP. Drooling at the thought of it, frankly.

Re: Triple Shot mounting rings

Got my switches in yesterday (WAAAAHHHH I knew I shoulda checked the mail when i got up WAAAAAHHHHH) so didn't get them until this morning when I got in.

They're the right size (pins match) but the actual switch tops are about half the size of the TS tops. They'll work, but I'll have a smaller target to aim for

Gonna catch a Z or two and fight with them this afternoon when I'm half asleep
