Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Can't be done conventionally. That triplebucker is six conductor, the triple shot only accepts a four conductor pickup.

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

There isn't much info from fender. All I know is it is literally a single coil and a humbucker. Six wires come from it but I don't know which is which

+1 on this...I havent had any experience with triple shots either, but I do know that they are designed for 4 conductor pups only...There may be a different type animal out there for that application....Maybe push pull knobs or mini toggle switches......

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

luckily i havent bought anything yet lol i knew something wasn't right. oh well ill look at other options. THANKS!

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Looking at the PDF, it appears to be 3 2-conductor singles.

Or, a 4-conductor and a 2-conductor.

Either way, I see nothing preventing using it with a TS, you'll just have to decide which 4 you want on the TS and run the other 2 out to a push-pull for phase inversion, since that's about all you can do with a 2-con.

I'd say it was safe to assume the coil closest to the bridge and the middle coil are wired in series and the center is reverse-wound.

thanks for that Dr.N! you'd think id be easier to get info straight from the manufacturer right?

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

managed to find this! it seems each coil is separate. this is a big help...

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

i have installed the triplebucker.. treat it as a humbucker and a single..NOT as a "3 coil" humbucker ..it is 6 conductors even though..mine had only 4 showing at the end of the insulation.. i theorize that the other leads where in the main sheath hidden and connected to ground.. tested them with a DMM and this pretty much confirms it.. shows 6 leads coming from the pickup but only 4 at the other end of the grey insulation.. i didnt want to do any coil split or anything else so it wasnt a big deal

here is the guitar i installed it in

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

well thats no fun! there's so much potential! haha i intend to get as much as i can out of two of these triple buckers. i need a new project...

well u can always make your own.. LOL

with 2 triples i guess you could in theory have a 3 humbucker guitar.. LOL 2 actual humbuckers and perhaps a virtual one if wiring permits it

when i installed mine.. i was thinking.. hmm turning a 2 humbucker guitar into a psuedo super strat..lol.. overall.. they are ok.. for me.. not great.. not bad.. perhaps a bit bright so i tweak the tone a bit to kill some of the brightness

edit>> on that doc you posted..

only info i used from it was this
Twist the following pickup coil wire pairs together and mark them with the included labels:

Coil #1: Blue (–) and Brown (+) the Bridge
pickup coil closest to instrument’s bridge
Coil #2: Green (–) and White (+)
the Bridge pickup coil in the middle
Coil #3: Black (–) and Red (+)
the Bridge pickup coil farthest from the instrument’s bridge

thanks for the input! the prices on these pups are really low and two will yield a lot of combinations. i originally hoped to not have to add a bunch of switches by using the triple shots but im at least excited by the possibilities. should be fun!

np.. if i had a guitar w/ pickguard i would of went crazy w/ switches myself..

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

For extra weirdness, you can (in theory) wire the middle and outer coils to a TS on the triple-bucker, then jump the inner coil to a TS on the neck pickup along with a 2-conductor neck humbucker.

This will give you the option of running the inner bridge coil along with the neck pickup.

Depending, of course, on whether you have a pickguarded model or the neck pickup's wires pass through the bridge pickup's cavity on their way to the controls.

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

I want to be able to switch each cool on and off at will. I haven't decided which guitar to use yet it all depends on the wiring and whether I go with toggles or rotary switches...

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Given that they're so close together and so small (3 coils in the space of 2), I seriously doubt you'll hear any tonal difference between each coil. At most, you'll hear a slight difference in the highs and mids by alternating between the inner and middle and middle and outer coils.
