Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

So a 2-hum guitar with triplebuckers in both positions?

I'm still not sure you're going to hear much of a difference unless each pickup has a different magnet. There's just not enough space between the coils. The harmonic nodes in that area of the string would overlap to the degree that the one centered over each pickup would dominate. Whatever tonal variance you would be able to hear could easily be replicated by turning the Tone knob one more number.

And no, there's no "11".

Re: Triple Shots & Triple Buckers Wiring

Probably so.

I'm certainly not trying to dissuade you from it, of course, and my opinions are not industry standards, but in my estimation, you'll put a ton of work into setting these up for the same tonal results as a regular 2-hum+TS layout.

But then I could be stone cold crazy and there's actually something to them besides marketing smoke.

Your best option is to get a pair and wire one at a time to an entire 3-way blade and listen to the 3 different positions. Or, go straight to the 5-way blade and see if 2 and 4 offer anything special. Throw in push-pulls for phase inversion on the outer coils and see how they play with the inner coil.

re: the document linked earlier in this thread -

I think that the person who did the stock Marauder switching diagram had the triplebucker positioned the wrong way round. ['compare it with the official fender switching and wiring diagram]

according to the official fender product description one of the outer coils in the fender marauder triplebucker is made of different material to the other two coils.

''Formvar-coated neck pickup magnet wire adds brightness and glassiness. Enamel-coated bridge pickup magnet wire delivers warm vintage-style tones''

also, each coil has a different dc output
