I cant believe I used to not like the way this amp sounds. Even with volume around 3 or 4 it still sounds great. I still think the 5150 is better, but the XXX is so much more versatile and quiet...Its perfect for guitarists who are playing most types of rock and are on a budget. I highly recomend it!

Triple XXX? so what XXXXXXXXX. I like these amps too. I thought they were just cheap rip off mesas but I really liked the 100watt head I played. A little over the top for my style though. Cleaned up well to.

i like them if you set the damping on loose
i kinda wish they had done a blend pot with that though, cuz i bet there's a sweet spot between medium & loose

i'm kinda in the middle of the XXX vs. 5150 debate myself, i've kinda given up on Mesa because they're so expensive. But the Peavey's i have played i have really been impressed with, great tonal quality and i really like the price. I like the versatility of the XXX, three channels and all, since i play lead in my band, but i also do lots of rhythmn work with that band aswell, so it would be nice to have rhythmn and lead settings in one amp. And the 5150 just sounds fenominal. Hard choice.

If the 5150 wasn't used by every hardcore kid and his grandmother, as well as every melodeathmetal band, and had a decent clean channel, I would've kept it

Since you like Mesa I'd go with the XXX. To me versatility is not a huge concern since I use 1 distorted channel for both rythmn and lead. The 5150's clean is not so bad if you roll down the tone on the neck pickup. I'll also add that I feel the distorted rythmn channel is useless if you use a tubescreamer... it just gives it this wierd artificial tone. So basically for me its just Distorted and Clean.
