TS808 vs TS9 . . . which one has a bigger mid hump?

Like the title says. I'm looking for a mid humped pedal. Which one has the bigger mid hump? For my application I want the one that's less transparent and more mid-humpy.

Ibanez JD9! Like a TS but with a bit more volume and… wait for it… a mids control!! A humpometer of sorts. Plus they tend to sell cheap.

I want something with a strong mid hump and soft clipping that can be used as a very slightly gainy boost for leads. JD-9 looks like a maybe on that front. But it sounds like the JD9 is true bypass. Does it do the annoying pop thing when turned on that most TB pedals do? That would be a non-starter for me in an overdrive.

Demos on youtube make it sound like the mids on the JD9 are a little lower than I'd like. Is that right? Is it a little more low mid than the tubescreamers?

It’s been a while but my memory is that the mids bump was like a TS9’s.

You can also get an 805 and boost the mids

TS808 is classic. Don't know if the TS9 has more or less mids. Use the tone control on the pedal to lower the highs as well which will make the mid boost more pronounced.

To my ears the od808 has a slightly fuller mid-hump and the ts9 has a slightly sharper more upper-mid hump and a bit more filtered lows.

Comparing the two back and forth it didn't take long for me to decide to sell the ts9. I'll never sell my last od808. It has a certain graininess yet is smoother at the same time.
I also have the od9pro+, and it does an improved ts9 sound IMO, but it doesn't really nail the od808, at least not all the way.

The 805 is a great pedal.

And you can add so many mids that it isn't really usable, if that's your thing.

The 805 would be the perfect Tube Screamer if it had a little more output. I think it's kind of an oversight for a "modernized" Tube Screamer to have actually less juice than a standard classic TS.

Either way, I think the TS808 has more low mids and the TS9 has more high mids. The difference is subtle, though.

This was made for just a few years, right?
For the best TS type pedals, the more tone controls, the better. The Bad Monkey, with its high and low EQ sounds better to me than a typical TS.

I have no idea. I bought it off someone on the forum probably 6 years ago. It works killer straight into a tube style amp. Running both sides together gets into what many consider to be distortion territory.
I have been known to use it to goose a distortion pedal. Or put it in front of a clean boost.

IME, they both have about the same amount of mids. There's not enough of a difference to make it really obvious. Between the two, I prefer the 808. It's got a smoother drive, a little bit more in the low mids and IME,a bit more girth. A great overdrive.
