TSL 100 or DSL 100??

Re: TSL 100 or DSL 100??

Woo Hoo! My First post!!!! Been lurking for a while... ANYWAY, I have a modded TSL combo with v30's which i am loving...tried the engl screamer and it wasn't for me...

Cant believe there's no love for the TSL! :)
Yeah but the screamer is not a high-gain map at all.plexi would be more a comaprison.if you like to compare tsl or dsl with an Engl ,it should be the fireball/powerball ,wich are 60/120 watts.

Ah, if you want a Marshall tone - ENGL will NOT NOT NOT have that freak nasty tone of a Marshall

IT IS A GOOD SOUND - but a Marshall is a beast.

If you want channels, look into some used amps such as VHT, Bogner, etc etc - they all touch the tone. Splawns are great from what I am told, never played one.

You'll find that a lot, but I love the tones from mine.

Re: TSL 100 or DSL 100??

Wow! I am really surprised here from reading all these posts. I respect all my elders opinions here but my TSL100 kicks butt whether I play it on 2 or higher. I also have a 1960AV vintage cabinet and the sound imo is awesome. That said I have not been around as long as you guys have but I have had no trouble with my TSL100 and I love the 3 different channels. My band has just won 2 Battle of the Bands in a row and my amp really rocked. I have to admit that my Les Paul and Fender Deluxe American Strat HSS work well with that amp but I'm shocked no one likes the TSL100. I guess we all have our opinions but I love my Marshall!!

Re: TSL 100 or DSL 100??

I've got no beef with my TSL either... well, other than the fact that I want a Bogner XTC more than my TSL or Mesa and have to sell them to afford it. But back on track...

I don't know why people have such a disaste towards 3 channel amps. I like them and their veratility. I don't think that they sound worse either. Just different tastes I guess. The addition of a third channel works nice for a boost for leads for me and relieves you of one less pedal to have in the chain if you use it as a boost. And as far as reliability of TSL's go, yeah there were some problems with the footswitches before, but the one I have now has been working for about 4 years without a hitch.

Re: TSL 100 or DSL 100??

I think the thing is if you REALLY REALLY sit with the TSL, esp in a studio environment, or place where you aren't just playing thumping loud - it just doesn't deliver sweet tone. It's loud alright. I have felt the same with Dual Recs, they can be loud but not soulful.

You can tune a TSL in with a LOT OF WORK, but I prefer an amp I don't have to work on. The DSLs do fit this bill.

I am now WILDLY interested in the Splawn because people rave to me. I will be honest, I am not impressed with the sound clips. They are not bad, but I am not bowled over by the tone. As of late, the 2 amp brands to blow me away have been Bogner and VHT.

Re: TSL 100 or DSL 100??

To each their own! I've been through SOOO many rigs through years of studio work and light touring...Marhsall, Mesa, Engl, now back to Marshall...and I think the TSL 122 is my favorite. I find it to be SUPER toneful...but than again, this may be because I bought it modded. While I agree that it is difficult to dial in at low volumes, at about 10:00 on the volume knobs, my TSL really sings. This is in both studio and live settings. I dunno...to me, Les Paul plus Marshall TSL122 = sex. :)
