Depends on what cab you’re plugging into that Tubemeister, and on what you like to hear. Also, the Tubemeister can be turned down to 5W or 1W. And it doesn’t sound like a Marshall; it has a more modern sound all its own. I’ve played that Marshall and like it a lot. It gets a nice bounce from that open back.

Look at the new Blackstar HT stage 60 mk2.
Sounds killer, way versitile, and has a drop down to 6 watts.

How low is "lower-volumes"? I used to have a Randall RD5 (5W) that sounded great once I turned it up, but at that point, it was louder than loud TV volumes. I sold it and got an RD1 (1W), and I am much happier.
Take a look at the Peavey 6505 MH (or the rest of their MH line), or the Orange Rocker Terror which can go down to 1W.

An Ampeg GVT5-110 is a phenomenal all tube amp that comes stock with JJ tubes and a 10" Celestion (Not "Celestion Designed") speaker. It's got 5 watts and can be switched down to half power. You can get great tube distortion from it at bedroom volume on half power and get good headroom at full power. I got mine for $150.

Get whichever you prefer to gig/rehearse and swap the speaker for an Eminence Reignmaker. You'll be able to play at home with good tone thanks to the attenuation of the speaker.

What kind of tones you're after and on what budget? Do you need any specific options (fx loop, 2-channels etc..)?
40w DSL combo or 18w tubemeister head are really far apart choices to begin with...
